Well, this 30-something female did not watch Supernatural (got addicted on the dvd's) or Privileged or Stylista last year but I am this year. Maybe others like me ages 35-39 have increased??

OK guys, I get it now. I'm from the UK, so how your ratings work is so interesting. In the UK it's only numbers. Demos are rarely looked at.

Tom, what will be most interesting to me is to see how the broadcasters season to date numbers look once we get to April. For at least some, the conventional wisdom is they'll bounce back *above* the numbers from the strike damaged portion of the season. I don't believe that. With the benefit of fall for hindsight, it looks like only CBS has a chance to reach its numbers from last season by the end.

There have been a lot of repeats recently, even in November, and last years scheduling was non-standard. But aside from that, did we not expect ratings to be down after the strike? Weren't the '88 declines even larger?

Personally, I continue to wonder why CBS Corp. doesn't take its ball and go home, aka move Gossip Girl/Supernatural/ANTM to MTV, split the profits with WB, and kill the network.
It can't be anything as simplistic as CBS Corp. has so few cable nets to train their execs on, so they throw them on the CW (can't let them learn on the job given the profits to be lost at CBS/Showtime), can it?

Not just for CW, but for all networks (except maybe CBS), would the abundance of repeats factor into this recent decline? Granted, there were repeats last season too. Still, it's not like the exact same weeks are repeats versus new, year-to-year. I wonder the effect.

Gavin, Julia is correct. The only real "news", something that's noticeably changed in these season to date averages is the CW's shift from growth in adults 18-34 as recently as 2 weeks ago, to a decline now.

Gavin, the reason is because up until this week CW didn't look too bad in the 18-34 demo compared to last year. They were down by a sliver, that's all.

Why is the focus on CW? Because Dawn "The Ostrich" constantly touts CW's plan to rebuild the network based on the youth demo. Granted all networks seek out the youth demos but CW is constantly flapping its arms about it.

Why single out the CW in your headline when the other 4 "big" networks have much bigger 18-34 drops than the CW?
