Please don’t cancel this original, comical, action-packed, witty, romantic show.

ABC always takes a nosedive once “Dancing with the Has-Been’s” concludes. I’m sure they expected their ratings to do this, but they’ll be right back up there again once it returns in the spring. ABC better hope that “Lost” can anchor their Wednesday nights. If it does (which I think it will), they will be very strong Sundays through Thursdays once the has-beens return in February.

My guess is that “Lost” will average about 13 million this season. Anyone disagree?

The iTunes, Xbox, Netflix, and Internet streaming so far isn’t something the networks/studios have figured out how to make money off of and the gravy train is still television. And there’s more complexity than that since there are many cases where the studio producing the show isn’t the particular network’s own studio. There are cases where NBC Universal shows are on Fox, ABC produced shows are on CBS, etc.

I didn’t expect downloads to be huge right now, but across all platforms (iTunes/Amazon/Xbox) it seems like even Heroes is well under 100,000 paid downloads per episode (on a weekly basis).

If/when millions start watching particular shows that way regularly, and/or the networks can figure out how to make money on Internet streaming all of that will be taken into account. For now it seems like ratings are the primary driver, with syndication and DVD potential as secondary considerations. The other stuff most likely isn’t a factor at all currently in renewal decisions.

Are these numbers (I’m sure the studios can get them from Micrsoft or Netflix) taken into account when deciding which shows stay and which go? Just curious as Monday’s episode of Chuck was the first I watched live (via HD antenna) in awhile. I have TTSCC and HIMYM waiting on my XBox to watch later in the week.

Um, I *seriously* doubt the cast and crew can churn out any more episodes in time for January anyway. I’m speculating, but I imagine they had to rush to get last night’s episode ready in time for broadcast, and now they probably need a holiday break to avoid being hospitalized from exhaustion. We just got 11 episodes all in a row — just a few years ago, that was virtually unprecedented for a non-soap! Babylon 5 and DS9 fans would’ve killed for 11 in a row!

The show has to go on a hiatus SOMETIME. People always complain about show schedules, but would you rather wait until January so you can get the whole season all in a row, like with Lost and 24? I wouldn’t.

Don: Got a lot of Chuck fans…however I would move Heroes to Thursdays…Sorry. Still has the 18-49 more/less but lets see how Chuck does. I know the TVByTheNumbers people would rather vote off Heroes than Chuck and I understand that. I admit I am a Heroes fan but I do deal with ratings reality believe me I REALLY DO!!!!

NBC needs to find the next big hit reality show. I don’t think “Howie Do It” is going to do it.

Also for those wondering about How I Met Your Mother…the answer is Yes. It is that entertaining. Barney Stinson is probably the most entertaining character on TV right now. As someone who has had The Office as their favorite show since 2005, I am getting very close to dethroning The Office with HIMYM. In fact, if The Office hadn’t gone on its recent string of excellent episodes, that change may have already taken place.

But to be clear, the way the measurement works, the viewing on Fox that was for the NFL game actually *is* counted in the numbers above and will be stripped out in the final numbers. And no, it certainly won’t help TSCC’s ratings.

Monday nights there is something for everyone to watch and for some of us too much for 2 dvrs to even keep up with.

Chuck NEEDED to improve its ratings especially with the Leno deal and it has done so as the season progressed. NBC would be foolish to not renew it for a S3 to keep paired with Heroes. Heck, anyone else think that this would be a good idea next season(if Kath and Kim isn’t renewed and My Name is Earl ends as well)

I’m wondering if this occurs elsewhere.

So I have a question…is Two and a Half Men really THAT good of a show? I remember watching it a few times early on and thought it was just ok; I saw nothing great or particularly hilarious, just your run of the mill comedy, JMO.

I have never seen HIMYM or BBT, so I can’t give my opinion either way, but the same question applies….are these really THAT good that they are such a ratings draw? Or is it on Monday nights people like to watch something less thought provoking after returning to the work week?

Just curious.

(on another note, I just got the Serenity Collector’s Edition DVD as a belated b-day present… mwahahaha. Yeah, thought I’d randomly mention that here.)

Most of the rest of the difference went to cable, although in a very cursory analysis (last night vs. a Monday night in early November), for the night, total viewing was down by 2%, so some of them just weren’t watching TV.

As for TSCC, I really enjoyed the fall finale last night, but honestly it isn’t surprising that the numbers are the same from last week. The preview for the finale was really lackluster in my opinion. I mean, if I weren’t a fan of the show I wouldn’t have wanted to tune into the ep just based from the preview. It didn’t really have anything exciting. But like I said, the ep itself I enjoyed very much. Though it wasn’t spectacular like the season opener was IMO. But thank God that that whole Jesse/Riley scene was not the same as the preview made it look. I actually really feel bad for Riley now. I’ve never really been much of a fan of her before, and recently I’ve begun to really dislike her, but dang, Jesse is a grade A JERK. -_-

But here’s something I don’t get. Where did those 18 million who watched DWTS go? It seems they like, dropped off the face of the earth… or at least the TV world. All of these numbers for the shows (bar Chuck) seem basically the same as when DWTS was on the air. Another million added to Chuck, and then the current ABC show got 7 mil viewers, so where does that leave the other 10 million viewers that used to tune in to TV Mondays at 8? Did they switch to cable or just stop watching TV at that time all together? Maybe I’m missing something here, but it just doesn’t add up (no pun intended…).

Just more evidence that HIMYM is the 21st Century ‘Friends.’

Is there enough crossover audience between any shows and the Super Bowl? Kind of a dumb question if you ask me. Since the Superbowl can be expected to draw 5 times the viewers as the current #1 weekly series, you could put just about any program on TV and easily pick up 25 to 30 million viewers.

As far as which shows would do best, I think an episode of HIMYM would be a very smart move for CBS. They could really make use of their flashback storytelling and make one hell of Super Bowl themed episode.

3D episode of Chuck needs to draw in 10+ million viewers

If I were to guess, I’d say CBS will wait until October next year to see what happens. But if The Office does well after the upcoming Super Bowl (and Jack Black is rumored to be part of that), that would bode well for The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. Well Charlie from Lost is on this episode so hopefully we bring in the lost Fans. Also NBC is going to be handing out 150 million 3D glasses because some of the superbowl will be in 3D. Then they are going to promote the heck out of Chuck during the superbowl.

Good to see Chuck up, it’s my favorite show of all.

I know My own worst enemy isn’t really worth mentioning since it’s been cancelled already, but is that the final episode?
