I love Smallville and haven’t missed one episode since it started. I also have all 7 seasons. I hope the CW keeps it going. There is so much still to be done with the series. I hope they have CK flying soon. He has been grounded for far too long. The actors are all very gifted which is why this series is still as poplar as it is today.

A lot of interest generated by Monday night. Without the half-hour breakdown hard to do anything but guess where the 2and a Half viewers went – presumably 24 and the bachelor picked up viewers, though both shows would seem to be unlikely candidates to jump on in the middle of. ( Probably as a reality show, the Bachelor more likely. Maybe not much female 18-49 interest in Worst Week. ) Gossip Girl – surprised how well-written it is. I could never become a regular viewer, but as it is a soap one could probably miss a few episodes and not be in the dark. A Rich Family/ Poor Family theme – often a pretty good source for drama.

Can’t wait to see how HEROES does going against 24. I have a strange feeling it could be the end of HEROES after this TV season… show costs too much to make, and ratings MIGHT hit as low as 6m.

In a new time period, the third season premiere of “Kyle XY” (1.5 million, 0.4) was down 33% from last season’s opener for its lowest-rated opener to date – even though “Kyle” enjoyed a “Secret” lead-in.

Getting beat by ABC Family is oddly amusing. One Tree Hill has proven to be quite the workhorse and deserves the recognition that is unjustly lavished on Gossip Girl.

Don M.: The reality shows on Monday night right now are place holders for Chuck and Heroes. As far as Jay Leno goes. If the show maintains the ratings that it gets as a late nigher right now or better, then its good. If the numbers really tank then it might be in trouble. Remember that a show like Leno is less costly than a sitcom or drama.

NBC – Once again is draining it’s audience of anything considered entertaining or watchable. With no real contingency plan they are slowly bleeding away any possible chance of a revival. Jeff Zucker should be replaced !!! He’s done nothing but destroy the network and WHEN ~ (not if) ~ this Jay Leno move fails, maybe he will finally be kicked to the curb.
CBS – Kudos for being consistent with it’s scheduling. The 3 earlier shows deserve the gained momentum. Worst Week is Not a good fit in the lineup and should be replaced.
ABC – Stable and steady…
FOX – 24 will be helped by the return of House…

Wendell, very good point. I think that plays to the “OMG, 24 is down 30% from 2007!” reaction that many folks have. Pretty much everything in broadcast television is down 30% from 2007 on a Live+SD basis. In perspective, 24 is doing fine.

Eddie, Fox has won the 18-49 season title for several years running thanks to Idol and last season to Idol+strike. I think the odds were in their favor to win it again *unless* Idol had a big come down from last season. The reasonably good opening for 24 seems like an extra bit of insurance.

With House becoming lead-in for 24, it will not only generate more viewers, but I think FOX will win Monday nights. Combine that Tuesday and Wednesday wins because of American Idol returning and FOX will start to become a very dominant player. Watch out CBS.

I love the CW. Gossip Girl is my favorite, but I also watch One Tree Hill and Smallville, sometimes 90210, occasionally Privileged. By CW standards (and by the standards of most networks aside from the big four), those shows all attract respectable audiences. Some of their 18-34 demos also stack up quite well next to the ones for certain shows on the major networks. But I guess I don’t see the point of coming to one of these posts and gloating about how particular shows aren’t doing as well as other shows. It’s kind of… tacky, I believe, is the word I want.

I saw the Lie to Me pilot and I think the show will do very well, because it’s pretty good. It can be compared to The Mentalist in a lot of ways, and in the first episode, at least, the solution wasn’t so cut and dried as “that guy blinked too much so he must be guilty, lock him up immediately.” Rather, the facial clues the investigators picked up when talking to people led them to look more closely at certain elements of the case, and from there to solid evidence.

Mr. Seidman, I loved the “spinmeisters” comment. The ratings are what they are and almost all of the major networks are experiencing growth on Mondays when compared with January 2008. NBC, however, is crashing hard. They fell from mediocrity to total disaster with this new lineup. They certainly need some ‘Heroes’ to salvage Mondays now.

Monday’s ratings are always the most interesting. I can’t wait till Chuck and Heroes come back for two reasons:

1. I love the shows and want to see more of them ASAP
2. It will be interesting to see what happens in the ratings.

Oh, and hopefully both Chuck and Heroes do better than Superstars of Dance is doing (I’ll bet anyone lunch at restaurant of winner’s choosing they will). I never expected it to last.

Robert, I never meant to suggest that a Melrose Place remake would be replacing Smallville. The reason I brought them up together is this blog: http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/tv/ where they are both discussed for the coming season. Just to clarify.

In regards to GG, I still believe the perception put out there by the media, and the CW, is a fallacy. A show “not doing badly” is not a hit. Its not a “phenom”. Its a show that is surviving. Given the amount of hype, PR and money that the CW put behind this show, shoudn’t it be doing better numbers?

Chris i agree with u, i dont understand the low ratings of GG despite of its constant advertisement.
Im not discussing about both series quality, i respect u like OTH, im just talking about the importance of GG so that OTH gets normal ratings.

Chris, look at NCIS: 6th season and best ratings ever.
CW did measure the OTH capacity leaving it alone without a new GG episode and it was awful despite of the “Dawsons Creek’s guest star”.
Im not telling OTH is a bad show, im only saying that this season OTH needs a help from GG being before it.
