Supernatural was gross, and really freaky. I’m glad the veiwersship was almost 3 mil lion considering what else was on at the time, I hope it finally reaches the 3 mil. mark. Maybe CSI fan will switch over now that Grissom’s gone.

Alan, I have been watching the TV press and have seen nothing yet on the Bush address numbers, but my guess is they will appear somewhere on Monday. Regardless, the final numbers for Thursday’s regular shows will appear on Tuesday.

Grey’s Anatomy was puniched with tuff competion from cbs, and the bad lead-in at 8 pm bring down the numbers a litlle more.

a show start with 5 millions viewers is hard to rebuilt to great numbers.

idizzle, I couldn’t agree more! I faithfully watch Supernatural at 9 pm. While I don’t make the same effort with Smallvile, I like it and know many Supernatural fans who thoroughly enjoy Smallville. Both groups should come together to help ratings for both shows!

Are Grey’s low numbers only because it was a special CSI? You couldn’t pay me to watch GA, but I wonder if any fans out there find the show disappointing this season. For instance, I’ve stopped watching House because of personell changes I find difficult to understand. The only dramas which don’t seem to be losing viewers significantly are the cop shows. Hmmm, very strange.

No Datz, you are not alone is noticing. PrP not only held it’s own but in the final
numbers the 11th hour only did 0.1 more in the A18-49 demo (3.4 vs 3.3) than Private Pratice.

CSI will be still here in five years because it’s Plot driven and Grey’s Anatomy is Character driven. Nobody expected GA to have 20 m viewers this season. After 5 years 13m is quite good for a soap. That huge drop is only because of that crap Denny Duquette storyline who killed the show

I don’t get off work until 9pm, so I have to Tivo Supernatural, but my cable box messed up and didn’t let the Tivo get the right program, so I had to watch it…um…through other means.

Jason, I’d like to think that total profit is the primary driver. if so, it seems that typically the most reliable indicator of profits are the Nielsen ratings among 18-49 year olds (see the link at top of the site for the “Renew or Cancel Index).

Syndication does play a role. If the network owns the show, you will see exceptions where ratings are less a factor than syndication (ABC with According to Jim) and if the network doesn’t own the show, they may get very favorable pricing (that impacts profits) from whomever does own the show.

But mostly, it seems to be the 18-49 ratings.

Hey Robert, what matters more? when a television network announces its fall schedule for the new season, how do they decide what shows are renewed or canceled? Do they look at the profits from syndication, the demos, they rating share, or the total viewing average? what mostly influences the decision?

These Supernatural vs. Smallville battles are almost as useless as the HIMYM vs. The Big Bang Theory arguments, can’t people see that all these shows are doing good for themselves, are well paired up and will most likely be around next season (unless that curious CW woman completely loses her marbles)?

Maria, cool’s point is that Supernatural has the better timeslot right now. It’s got a good lead-in (for CW) and the 9pm hour has a higher HUT across the board. There are more people sitting in front of their TVs who might come across CW at that time. Ratings are supposed to go up at 9, not down.

Cool; You didn’t even read what I wrote- IF THEY WERE TO CHANGE TIME SLOTS. The one time Supernatural was on at 8pm and 9pm their ratings went way up. And I was only responding to the person who thinks Supernatural and Smallville are in some kind of competiion,when they said Smallville did better. And the competiton in the same time slot does matter.

That’s a good number for Supernatural –coming back from hiatus (with little or no promotion) up agianst a very, very special CSI. CSI and the Office hurt SN more than Grey’s. I would have liked to see it hit 3 million — but it was close! Ewwwwww! Gross!!! Is right!

Maria, no way Supernatural will double Smallville numbers.. Supernatural is at 9 (which means highet HUT levels), it has a lead in (Smallville doesnt have lead in).

The only reason Smallville has a higher rating than Supernatural is because Smallville has less competition. If they were to trade time slots- Supernatural’s ratings would more than double Smallville’s ratings, CSI and Grey’s are the top 2 shows. I think Supernatural does well considering.
Smallville against those two shows would not do as well. That is what I think.

Sure. I guess they weren’t really affected by the president goodbye-thing cause Earl aired exactly at 8:30.

24.25 is closer to what I thought for CSI.

I disagree. I’ve been waiting for the return of the Office for quite sometime and was very underwhelmed by last night’s episode. Dwight and Andy’s duel was stupid and usually I love Michael’s interactions with Wallace at Corporate but this one wasn’t very funny. Glad the whole Angela/Dwight/Andy love triangle plot is over though, it was a bad idea from the start and didn’t make sense to me given Angela’s religious background. Hopefully once Stringer Bell makes his appearance things will be better.

Wow its quite odd when you compare US television to the UK’s because BBC ONE or ITV gets like 6-7 million veiwers a day (like 9-10 on saturdays= which is like sundays for america), yes the BBC and ITV are mainstream but for NBC to have similiar numbers with some of its best shows is just weak (and the CW is even weaker). I guess the giant audiences in America are just tuning into cable now (at least more than they did before). Which is why i guess the comparison of the networks isn’t that fair.

SO happy for CW it beated FOX last night which is great not to see CW at the last place , i am not American so i don’t get the all time low ratings for the CW , also the high ratings for CBS , i don’t like any thing on this channel , excpet for How I met Your Mother and Moonlight last year , but nothing else !!!!!!

Any ways , Good for you SMALLVILLE , kill it every thursday

Also Grey’s Anatomy better luck next Thursday’s , and as i can see Private Practice is doing better.

30 Rock will live on forever, its the equivalent of According to Jim. NBC lefties love it.

ER should have gone away years ago. Now its just sputtering to close. Even cameos from the days when ER was at the top of its game doesnt help. Its ratings are still decent but the quality slow bled out of it to the point its a shell of its former self.
