doesnt this show the downfall of the show???

Next week a new episode returning only on Feb 22, in my opinion, with to recaps show on sunday 8 and 16, with some extra scenes deleated before on the editing process.

I know you fine TVBTN people are sparing us more Super Bowl ratings analysis, but I’m chiming in anyway .

We have a historic Super Bowl this year. The Stillers could be the first team to ever win six Super Bowls. Mike Tomlin could be the youngest coach to win the SB. Arizona is on their first trip to the Bowl. Still, these are small-market teams (not Dallas, not NY, yadda yadda yadda…). I won’t be surprised if the ratings aren’t gangbusters this year, but I’d expect any “dip” to be minor in the grand scheme of things.

CBS must be pinching themselves over The Mentalist.

Normall i am not a fan of Cop/Detective shows as they go on and on spin off wise like LnO or CSI but The Mentalist is a very intriguing and thought out show.

I watched last nigth DH episode and I understand why the ratings were “so bad”: this was the worst episode ever! but while it was really bad, watching it made me understand why ABC would air it against the Game: they must had planed it a while ago cuz this episode didn”t add up anything to the plot so that eventhough a lot of regular viewers missed it they won’t feel lost when the next episode will be on (btw am french so sorry if my english is so so

abc should air the last 3 housewives next sunday in a row. it won’t do great but at least maybe some people who missed out can catch up.

I agree that ABC’s scheduling decisions are suspicious, although I dont think the decisions to air new episodes on Jan 4 and 11 were bad ones………the show needed to return from Christmas break and folks returning to work after vacation on Jan 5 wanted their DH fix. The Golden Globes reached the worst rating ever on NBC, proving that DH was worthy competition on Jan 11. But last night? DH should have aired a rerun and saved the terrific 100th episode for next Sunday, when there is no football and no series competition from CBS or NBC. DH will, strangely, air a rerun next week against weak competition.

I agree with much that has been said and made the point, maybe obscurely, weeks ago that rerun after rerun of DH is what hurts it, knowing they will be going against bowl games and NFL when they air fresh shows in January. I don’t care what anyone sdays, smart advertisors care about low reruns, especially when they are that low. It has to factor into a shows value. So I agree with the poster above who blames ABC’s scheduling, but I also maintain the second season was actually despised by many fans, its been hard to win them back, the forward in time schtick was too obvious ( unlike the tornado last year which generated buzz,) and — hey. Ask House if you can tamper with a winning format and get by unscathed. Ask GA for that matter. The competition from younger skewing cable and Fox shows is making them panic, and thew writers’ strike sure didn’t help.

In quality, DH is better and in ratings, DH has to compete with NFL every Sunday and last night was not exception with 40 million.

Something us clearly wrong with ABC. You don’[t air you 100th episode of your best show opposite a major game! Anyways yeah DH is safe but that episode was amazing! it’s airing next Saturday @ 10pm for those of you who missed it… you should check it out!

Josh F, you mean Grey’s is definitely worse in terms of ratings or quality? Because I’m pretty sure, with the exception of the Thanksgiving episode, Grey’s series low is higher than this in the demo.

While ‘Desperate Housewives’ ratings are down…you can blame this on ABCs horrible scheduling. First, they air an episode two days after new years when it was still a holiday weekend, knowing that ratings would be down. Then, they air an episode against the Golden Globes, again knowing that ratings would be down. And yesterday, they aired the 100th episode celebration against pre-superbowl stuff. ABC needs to get with it. These episodes should’ve all aired in February to avoid all of this competition.

The show isn’t going anywhere. It’s their highest rated show on the air at the moment. Do you see anything else they air getting higher ratings? Dancing with the Stars is on break. Grey’s Anatomy certainly doesn’t pull in better numbers. So do you really think they’ll get rid of Housewives? Over Mary Alices dead body. ABC just needs to schedule the new episodes better.

apologies… i should have stated i was being sarcastic… but i thought it was kind of obvious. DH is safe. but i still don’t get how millions who’ve been watching the show probably for years and considering how good and consistent it’s been this year could just tune out because of the x-mas break. i really think the numbers are off on this and a lot of other shows. the audience seems to just erode by the millions and it always happens on the x-mas break. last year they had the tornado… maybe they should have had something like that this year just to bridge that 4 week layoff. i just don’t understand how 2 million people just stop watching because of repeats for 4 weeks. are we that impatient? by most fans view of this show… it’s been a great season.

The entire ABC prime time lineup is one of the safest on network TV. DH has not tyaken a real hit yet. These are only seasonal flesh wounds. If you pay attention to the Nielsens year-round, you’ll see what I mean. N’est pas?

As someone both on record as a one-time DH fan and also on record as unfriendly to soap operas with no young male appeal, I think I can be trusted when I say, DH has not taken a real hit yet. These are flesh wounds, bad as they seem. DH has a built in fan base and people keep up with the actress’ lives through the cosmetics and fashion industry media and ads. The other nets will do what they can to knock DH down a notch or two because they have no consistent competition against the whole Sunday night ABC lineup, unlike Wedensday night and Thursday night after January, when AI and CSI respectively weigh in. The Sunday night ABC lineup, if you pay attention to the Nielsens year round and not just periodically, is one of the safest in prime time. N’est pas?

A boneheaded decision? I fail to see what’s wrong with trying to get some more people to see the show for the first time, so they can tune in on Tuesday nights. It’s not like the Mentalist is getting cancelled after this season because of this performance. Just because it didn’t work out well doesn’t make it a boneheaded decision.

Dean, I’m with you, and no, it doesn’t seem like they learned. I did actually watch the trophy presentation to Arizona, but that was only because I was waiting for Ravens/Steelers to begin.

Josh, I’m sure last night, the football game had a lot to do with the decrease. Let’s see where things are in say March before speculating on the demise of a show that got a 4.6 18-49 rating even up against an NFL conference championship.

Didn’t anyone learn from The Alias fiasco? Why CBS chose to air The Mentalist was a boneheaded decision. (Considering the trophy presentation for AFC, blah, blah, blah. Um, nobody cares about trophies except for SB.)
