FOX RANKS NO. 1 AMONG ADULTS 18-34

American Idol” Premiere Delivers Highest-Rated Telecast on Any Net this Season

“IDOL” Wednesday Outperforms “IDOL” Tuesday Premiere For First Time in 5 Seasons

FOX’s week was highlighted by the strong returns of American Idol and 24 which led the network to rank No. 1 for the week among Adults 18-34 and Teens. In addition, FOX is currently in the No. 1 spot for the season among Adults 18-34 and No. 2 among Adults 18-49, only one-tenth behind.

Monday’s action packed two-hour premiere of 24 delivered a 4.1/10 among Adults 18-49.  24’s retention of its Sunday night premiere was comparable to its retention two years ago among Adults 18-49 (95% vs. 97%) and in Total Viewers (98% vs. 99%).

On Tuesday, the eighth season premiere of American Idol opened with an 11.7/28 among Adults 18-49 with 30.4 Million Total Viewers. It was the highest-rated telecast of the season among Total Viewers and the second highest-rated telecast this season among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (behind only Wednesday’s American Idol premiere). FOX delivered its highest Tuesday night ratings in 11 months among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (both since 2/12/08) and in one year among Teens and Total Viewers (both since 1/15/08).

Wednesday’s premiere of AMERICAN IDOL delivered an 11.8/30 in Adults 18-49, up +1% versus Tuesday night’s premiere.  In Total Viewers, AMERICAN IDOL Wednesday was flat vs. Tuesday, while in Adults 18-34 AMERICAN IDOL was up +10%.

This is the first time in five years that AMERICAN IDOL’s Wednesday premiere has increased over its Tuesday premiere in Adults 18-49 (since Jan’04) and the first time in the five years that Total Viewers retained at least 100% of its Tuesday debut audience.  It was also the first time EVER that AMERICAN IDOL saw an Adults 18-34 increase in its Wednesday premiere over Tuesday premiere.

AMERICAN IDOL’s Wednesday season eight premiere retained 99% of its Wednesday debut last year on 1/16/08 in Total Viewers, 94% of its Adults 18-49 rating and 98% of its Adults 18-34.

The Wednesday premiere of AMERICAN IDOL is the highest-rated telecast of the season on any network among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. The AMERICAN IDOL Wednesday debut gave FOX the highest-rated night for any network in 11 months among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 (since 2/12/08) and the network delivered its highest Wednesday night ratings in one year among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34 and Teens (all since 1/16/08) and in eight months in Total Viewers (since 5/21/08).

Compared to the same weeks of the 07/08 season (9/24/07-1/20/08), FOX is down -14% among Adults 18-49 (3.1/8 vs. 3.6/10) and down -12% among Total Viewers (8.5 vs. 9.7 Mil).  Among Adults 18-49: ABC (-12%), CBS (-3%), NBC (-12%) and The CW (-18%) are down.
