FOR THE SEASON, JAY IS OUT-rating 'Late Show' BY A 19 PERCENT MARGIN IN 18-49 VIEWERS AND Conan IS LEADING 'LATE Late Show' BY 25 PERCENT
JAY AND Conan ARE STRETCING THEIR SEASON LEADS AMONG YOUNGER VIEWERS, WITH JAY BEATING LETTERMAN BY 40 PERCENT IN ADULTS 18-34 AND Conan DEFEATING FERGUSON BY 61 PERCENT
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – January 23, 2009 – NBC's late-night lineup has won the week of January 12-16 in adults 18-49 and other key categories over all cable and broadcast competition, with "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" claiming the 11:35 p.m. ET hour in 18-49 viewers by an 11 percent margin over CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" beating CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" at 12:35 a.m. by 4 percent.
Both Jay and Conan stretched their leads among younger adults, with "Tonight" topping "Late Show" for the week by a 27 percent advantage among adults 18-34 and "Late Night" generating a 21 percent margin over "Late Late Show."
Season to date, Jay is delivering a 19 percent margin of victory over Letterman in adult 18-49 viewers and a 26 percent advantage in total viewers, while Conan's leads over Ferguson are 25 percent in 18-49 and 3 percent in total viewers. Both Jay and Conan once again pull away among younger adults, with Jay leading the season by a 40 percent margin among adult 18-34 viewers and Conan winning by 61 percent.
For the week of January 12-16, Jay's average 1.701 million adults 18-49 topped the 1.528 million of Letterman; in total viewers, Jay's audience of 5.074 million persons beat Letterman's 4.205 million; and in adults 18-34, Jay's 660,000 out-delivered Letterman's 520,000. At 12:35 a.m. ET, Conan's 862,000 adults 18-49 for the week out-delivered Ferguson's 831,000; in total viewers, Conan's 1.852 million trailed Ferguson's 2.082 million; and in adults 18-34, Conan's 375,000 topped Ferguson's 310,000.
