For me the beauty of Friday Night Lights is it’s Simple Honest story about Life. It’s not about fancy cars, designer clothes, or trust funds. It’s a Coming of Age story that Timeless. It’s about Flawed people young and old. Trying to be a better Daughter. . Son. . .Mother. . .Father. . Friend. It’s about simple things. . a Look. .a Gesture. . a Smile. That will remind you of where you’ve been in Life. I don’t care where you were raised, or where you moved too. If you’re in small town Texas or big city New York. There’s will be something about Friday Night Lights that will speak to you. If you have ever been moved by a 60 second Hallmark Card Commerical. You know the ones. That make you Think. . Laugh. .and Cry. Remind you of old friends. . . teachers. . parents. . .your grandparents. . . even a old Lover. Maybe the one that got away. Then I think you would adore Friday Night Lights. It’s not just about Football. It’s the story of lives very similar to our own. It’s . .Simple. . Honest. . and Gorgeous to watch.

I guess FNL doesn’t get as many viewers as other shows because people just love their procedurals.. Maybe it is difficult for the audience to change its habbits and actually watch something more deep and realistic. If there are no extraordinary/fictional situations involved (like ghosts for example) and the critics love the show it means that the critics are out of touch with the public?? I have to agree though, that while some shows are currently enjoying the viewing trend there are some other shows out there that go against the flow and may some day considered as classsics.. Not all shows have to be about aliens, ghosts and mysterious happenings (we want those too offcourse, but we have plenty), so please don’t mock a show just because it sticks with a simpler yet a lot more touching storyline..

Friday Night Lights might have been successful on a teen network like the CW, but not a major network.

Critics/industry insiders love FNL? Thats the things about critics – they tend to live in the old ivory tower and are usually out of touch with the larger viewing public. Its the same reason why Sean Penn wins best actor in a movie (that also won several Oscars) only hard core lefties and gays thought was great. No wonder the entertainment biz is falling on hard times. Without box office blowouts like WALL-E (ok never could figure out why people liked that one so much), Dark Knight and Iron Man, they would up sheet creek without a paddle.

exactly Jayson, Delia is more involved with this storyline too and that is great.We have even begun to see a bit more of Ned as well. Melinda is still front and center as usual but the supporting cast is getting more screen time and that is helping the show greatly. Following Jim and Melinda’s “lovestory” makes me appreciate their relationship even more than I already do. I agree that the way that they did it is over the top, but this is the kind of show where they can do something like that and get away with it because of the nature of the show. I love it and I can’t wait to see how it plays out! Even so, you can’t please everyone i guess..

Selene, I agree with a lot of what Mike says. I think the twist has led them to showing more of the other characters. Usually we had the ghost every week and maybe a scene at home, a scene at the shop and that was it. Now we’re actually seeing the regular characters interact more, and I think that has made it a more compelling show.

NOOOO! i watch Ghost Whispere UK pace and Jim hasnt died yet!! iv been on here for 6 months and know one has said any spoilers about any show before! oh well my fault! Im not sure whats going to happen with GW, some people on here think its a good thing, some people dont!

I must admit that killing Jim on GW had me all ready to quit the show but it surprised me the way they are handling it. I’m loving watching what’s going on with this whole storyline and judging by the ratings..so are alot of people, it will be interesting to see where it goes.. and David Conrad is getting alot more screen time than in past seasons, maybe it’s all his fans that are pushing the ratings up..whatever they are doing it’s working. the show is great!

I just wanted to say that ratings should not be the only measure of the quality of a show. Low ratings usually (if not always) translate into failure for networks but that’s not always the case for the viewers. I think that the few people who watch FNL classify the show as one of the best dramas currently on tv.

Shows that are loved by the critics but ignored by the veiwers are usually given 3 seasons before its canned for good.

If FNL has any problems it’s a fictional sports drama in a world where nowdays you can read/watch real life local sports drama just by reading/watching your hometown news. When was the last time a sports drama did well ratings wise?

The only thing FNL has in common with all the other teen dramas out there is that they all have commercial breaks..Not every show is about being predictable or not.FNL presents top quality acting and i think it should be judged by this.Failing to draw a large number of viewers doesn’t make this show a failure.

I could never understand the fascination with FNL. Yet another teen drama, and quite predictable at that. And I guess most people feel the same, because that boat is sinking and fast (as it should). I hope NBC wise up and won’t bring it back for another run of failure.
I’m delighted to see Flashpoint doing so well. It was a total waste as a summer show, since it’s a perfect fit for the regular season, and not just for Fridays.

If it should go away, fans can’t say that FNL wasn’t given a chance. I remember the nailbiter for the pick up for season 2. There were programs, on NBC mind you, that had better (demo) ratings that were axed in favor of keeping FNL. Then to have DirectTV save it from death for season 3! All I can say is enjoy it until the critics are not so much in love.

As I have seen FNL Season 3 on DirecTV, I watched “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” to catch a glimpse of Rick Springfield. Still gorgeous after all these years, he is! He was a little self-deprecating and fun too, asking the contestant for a cut of her winnings if he helped her out a little

Versus last week, DFTL has a slight bump in the ratings. Maybe I’m not the only one who wanted to see Rick Springfield?

Jole, it doesn’t work that way. You have to first average EHC and TG together, to get that hour’s average (1.625) and then average that with the 9pm hour. So it’s 1.34.

Robert, I think the average you posted for the CW is wrong. I did the math and here’s what I got:

CW
EHC + TG + 13: FiR
1.64 + 1.61 + 1.06 = 4.28
4.28 / 3 = 1.43 million
