Cox's NBC affiliate WPXI Pittsburgh will delay a special hour-long The Office to allow for extra post-game coverage of the hometown Steelers. NBC's quirky comedy is scheduled on the network at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, but VP/General Manager Ray Carter says local viewers would rather see Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu than fellow Pennsylvanians Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute. So WPXI will air it at midnight.

"There's no other story in Pittsburgh that will generate this sort of interest," says Carter, who adds that the game's result will affect the length of the local post-game coverage. "This is the best compromise we can make."

Just a guess, but if the Cardinals win, I see a lot of people turning the channel in Pittsburgh. I know I don’t like watching post-loss Packers interviews. And that happened a lot this year.

  2. Dennis

Everyone would rather see Ben Roethlisberger and Troy Polamalu than The Office.

Everyone includes Pittsburgh and Dennis. Looking forward to The Office!

  4. Jesse, good thing we don’t have to worry about the Cards winning!

@Julia, NOOOO! Don’t say that, it might jinx the Steelers! I won’t say a darn word regarding the outcome of the game, I’m superstitious like that ;)

There are actually several local bars and restaurants here in the Burgh that are closing at 3 p.m. game day. The restaurants expect to be empty; the bars are avoiding rowdy crowds and legal issues, should there be any post-game drunken rioting. In both cases, employees are enjoying a night off to watch the game. Pittsburgh Public Schools already announced they’re running a 2-hour delay on Monday, specifically noting that the game is the reason. So yep, we’re serious about football :D
