Friday Ratings: even with reruns, CBS still wins

CBS ran all reruns, but still had the most viewers of the night and tied for first with ABC among 18-49 year olds. Words that should send shivers down the spine of every Friday Night Lights fan: Howie Do It had better numbers.

It wasn't all that long ago that a House repeat could pull a 2.8 rating among 18-49 year olds, so you can't blame them for trying. Next Friday FOX tries Cops and America's Most Wanted.

The week after that is Friday the 13th, literally, and perhaps figuratively for fans of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Joss Whedon's Dollhouse.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

    It’s funny that everytime NBC has renewed a series (Knight Rider, How Do It) the next airing goes to a series low.

    Everybody Hates Chris (IMO is a great show) never did well in ratings but it looks like it’s been slowly growing week after week. Maybe it’ll hit 2 million sometime in the future and then get better numbers than Gossip Girl and 90210. :D

    NBC doesn’t advertise FNL. They advertise Howie Do It. The results show.

    Look for zero “Friday Night Lights” ads during the Super Bowl.

    Wow, the ratings for The Game and Everybody Hates Chris actually went up from the last few weeks. I hope they are not in danger of being canceled seeing as CW shelved them on Friday nights.

    At least FOX is advertising Dollhouse. Starting to see a lot of promos, and Eliza Dushku will be on some great talk shows the week it premieres. Have some hope instead of dooming both shows already.

    Wow, just after Robert showed me how HOUSE did in repeats last year around the same time pulling over 7 million viewers. These are the numbers I’d expect from TSCC and DOLLHOUSE but they had HOUSE and LIE TO ME by the numbers instead.

    Those are exactly what I was thinking those two shows will pull in 2 weeks. We’ll see.

    Those two shows are pointless and boring.

    Friday line-up should be

    7pm: Smallville (R) (Thursday’s Episode)
    8pm: Smallville (Viewers Choice) (From any season)
    9pm: Gossip Girl (R)

    EHC: 1.90 Million
    The Game: 1.91 Million
    = 3.81 Million

    If Smallville took over ECH & TG, Smallville Repeat would get about 3.86 Million, Smallville (7:00 3.86 Million), (7:30 3.87 Million) that’s 1.96 Million more than ECH & 1.96 Million more than The Game

    13: Fear is Real: 1.01 Million
    = 1.01 Million

    If Smallville Viewers Choice took over it would be about 3.34 Million, That’s 2.33 Million more.

    Gossip Girl Repeat would bring in about 2.21 Million

    Smallville, Smallville, & Gossip Girl would bring in about 9.41 Million viewers

    Where normal friday line up brings in 4.82 Million.

  15. we don’t get overnight ratings for MNT. We probably won’t know until tuesday when we see final weekly ratings for the week (we do see MNT in the weekly #s)

    I don’t understand why the CW is still around. That network is the scum of tv, full of horrid dumb awful shows.
    The ratings are pathetic. How can a 2.9 be a success? THE CW NEEDS TO STOP NOW.

    Nick C, That’s true, but if You get to choose the episode, people will vote for they favorite which will bring in the viewers.

    I agree how the heck is the CW running, They have awful ratings and borderline boring shows.. I’m amazed they are still around…

    You can say that about any network. But The CW always stays strong with the thursdays line up, and also Monday’s line up.

    That’s how they stay around.
