As befits the annual broadcaster of the Super Bowl, NBC’s weekly averages dwarfed its rivals in the 19th week of the 2008-9 season (January 26 – February 1). Since the Super Bowl broadcast rotates, it’s a multi-year wait between these epic weeks for each of the networks.
NBC’s average viewership of 21.58 million beat second place Fox by over 10 million average viewers. For demo adults 18-49 it was NBC over Fox by 10.35 million to 5.57 million. NBC won demo adults 25-54 over Fox by 10.33 million to 5.94 million viewers. In adults 18-34, NBC lead with 4.82 million to 2.55 million for Fox.
If you hadn’t already noticed another trend for the week, with CBS going mostly with reruns, Fox swept the #2 position across the board last week. I think they are better positioned for spring this season than they were last season, even with their relative advantage because of the writer’s strike last year.
Tiny Network Smackdown Update! Once again it was a dogfight between the CW which won 2 adult demo categories (18-49, 18-34) and MyNetworkTV which bested CW for average viewers and adults 25-54. Tune in next week for more of the tussle!
