UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – February 5, 2009 – NBC's late-night champs have delivered wins in every key ratings category for the week of January 26-30 over all cable and broadcast competition, with "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" claiming the 11:35 p.m. ET hour over CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" by a 26 percent margin in adult 18-49 viewers and "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" beating CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" at 12:35 p.m. by 21 percent.
Both Jay and Conan stretched their leads among younger adults, with Jay topping Letterman for the week by a 37 percent advantage among adult 18-34 viewers and Conan achieving a 60 percent margin over Ferguson.
For the season as well as last week, "Tonight" is out-scoring "Late Show" in every key ratings category: adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. "Late Night" is also topping "Late Late Show" in all of those categories as well.
Season to date, Jay is delivering a 21 percent margin of victory over Letterman in adult 18-49 viewers and a 28 percent advantage in total viewers, while Conan's leads over Ferguson are 25 percent in 18-49 and 3 percent in total viewers. Both Jay and Conan pull away among younger adults, with Jay leading the season by a 41 percent margin among adult 18-34 viewers and Conan winning by 60 percent.
For the week of January 26-30, Jay's average 1.876 million adults 18-49 topped the 1.489 million of Letterman; in total viewers, Jay's audience of 5.212 million persons beat Letterman's 3.898 million; and in adults 18-34, Jay's 775,000 out-scored Letterman's 566,000. At 12:35 a.m. ET, Conan's 1.010 million adults 18-49 for the week out-delivered Ferguson's 832,000; in total viewers, Conan's 1.986 million beat Ferguson's 1.937 million; and in adults 18-34, Conan's 531,000 topped Ferguson's 332,000.
