from James Hibberd:
Despite double-digit ratings growth this season, MyNetworkTV is changing its business model and cutting back on original programming.
MyNet will move to a "programming service model" next fall that includes a two-hour block of NBC Universal "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" repeats.
[...]
In a season where most networks are down year-to-year, MyNet showed the most growth of any broadcast network -- up 50% among adults 18-49 and edging out the CW during some recent weeks. Still, behind the steep percentages lies a modest overall level of viewership led by the costly "WWE Friday Night Smackdown."
WWE and the NBC block will be included on MyNet's new fall schedule, which will be announced soon. -- read the rest on The Live Feed.

How long before the CW folds?
MyNet PR cannot hold a candle to the CW’s. In the range of stories I’ve read about this change, many have included semi-disparaging designations like “Netlet”, “mini-net”, etc. And although their ratings are essentially the same, you *never* see those types of descriptions associated with the CW in the industry press.
Really? I’ve seen those descriptions used for the CW a couple of times. Maybe not often, but occasionally. (Although to be fair, I think it mostly came from Lisa de Moraes, and she disparages EVERYTHING, so I guess it shouldn’t really count!)
Bill, at least MyNet is sure it will be around next season.
ZING!
Law & Order: Criminal Intent is the worst of the L&O!
Why doesn’t MYNetwork get included in the overnights like the big 5 and UNI?
Goodness knows. Sounds like it should.
MNTV should be in the ratings box if the crappy CW is. I too wonder how long CW can continue. Its like they arent even trying any more. Other than Thursdays their schedule is largely crap nobody is watching. The worst is Sunday with Jericho reruns that are the lowest rated shows on any network (at least ones displayed here) and lame old movies (Spaceballs was ok, but the rest? Ugh). Time for CW to sell off its few decent shows like Supernatural, Smallville and Reaper to MNTV and fold up its tent and fade into history.
Our Overnight ratings sources don’t include MyNet numbers, sadly.
Does MNTV have any original programming besides Smackdown? I remember at one point, Flavor Flav had some kind of show, but I thought they cancelled it..
Ooh! Does this mean another net will air both seasons of Jericho again?
Other than Smackdown, I could not tell you what “original” programming MNTV offers at this point. I remember that they tried telenovelas, but that must not have worked out so well?
Here were the MyNet primetime shows for the week of 1/26-2/1. Sadly, I do not know which are original programming other than Smackdown.
WWE FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDWN
MASTERS OF ILLUSION
MY THURSDAY NIGHT MOVIE
MY SATURDAY NIGHT MOVIE
STREET PATROL
TWILIGHT ZONE
TWILIGHT ZONE 2
VICE SQUAD
VICE SQUAD 2
WORLDS FUNNIEST MOMENTS
STREET PATROL 2
TONY ROCK PROJECT
UNDER ONE ROOF
Is Bravo giving up L&O Criminal Intent which it runs every Sunday night?
Sadly, every last one of those (besides the movies, obviously) are original programming. And the overnights I receive every day do provide the MyNet numbers. I guess it depends on the level of service you subscribe to…and the market perhaps?
In my opinion is the television in US that should change its business model!
Television in not the same that was in the 80′s or 90′s and will be even more different in near future.
Four major commercial television networks in the U.S is enough, with each one broadcast 22 hours a week in primetime.
Shut down or move other english channels to cable TV.
In broadcast television in Languages Other Than English, only Univision (spanish). The rest once again move to cable.
In over-the-air commercial or non-commercial television: ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Univision (Spanish) and PBS (non-commercial), nothing else!
Maybe the CW should follow MyNet’s “programming service” business model and stop programming Sunday.
And Monday.
And Tuesday.
And Wednesday.
And Thursday.
And Friday.
Yeah, just… stop programming on all those days.
Well CW already tried renting out Sunday nights. We had Easy Money, Valentine, etc and they all flopped badly. I think CW constantly tells us about the demos it attracts, which is understandable. Consider Smallville, which on Thursday got 3.882 million viewers and a 1.6/5 in the 18/34 rating/share, and compare that to a CSI repeat which got 11.652 million viewers but got a lower 1.6/4 in the 18/34 rating/share. Add that to the product placement, which can be horrendously obvious on some CW shows, but I expect pays a lot of money. I can see why companies would pay for time on the CW.
Just my opinion.
