from James Hibberd:

Comedy Central's "Important Things With Demetri Martin" was the network's most-watched series premiere since "Chappelle's Show" in 2003.

The comedian's Wednesday night debut (clip below) drew 2.4 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49. The adult demo number was the highest since 2003's "Reno 911!" and "Things" was the fourth-highest-rated program of the night across all of cable. In fact, Martin's premiere drew bigger numbers than its lead-out, "The Daily Show" (2.3 million, 1.2), where Martin used to appear as a "youth correspondent."

Hibberd is starting to post more cable show information intraweek, and there is some additional detail for Tuesday and Wednesday in the post above including Nip Tuck, Top Chef, Real World and T.I.'s Road to Redemption so keep your eye on Hibberd's The Live Feed for more intra-week Nielsen cable show ratings data reporting.

  1. Too bad it was so horrible. And I like Demetri Martin.

  2. excellent i enjoyed it

  3. You need better taste, Jimmy. The show SUCKED.

  4. stacy

I liked it too Jimmy, and Julia I think my taste is just fine.

  5. Yours may be, but that doesn’t excuse Jimmy.

  6. John

The show was hilarious, a lot better than the Chocolate News crap and Julia, what’s it to you if someone liked a show you didn’t? You don’t have to blast them about their taste.

  7. sam

HAHA this is exactaly why when Robert anounced Julia would be a new team memeber of the site i said UGHH she mean and no one likes her

  8. Sam, uh….no. Julia and Jimmy are friends, and Julia is just giving Jimmy grief. I’m sure he’ll get some dig in about her questionable tastes in television at some point.

So yeah, you don’t like her, but I like her, Bill likes her and from my perspective it is *you* who comes off sounding mean here…

  9. Rich

I was at one of the show tapings, I thought the show was ok…but I expected more.

  10. John

so is The Sarah Silverman Program coming back

  11. julia my friend? Never. I tolerate her.

  12. Jenna

How does someone become a “team member” on this site anyways?

  13. Jenna

I haven’t seen the shows, but I wasn’t impressed with the previews for it. I’ll check it out though…

  14. Jenna

    show*

  15. CrashMacKenzie

I really like Demetri Martin, but that show wasn’t very good.

  16. John

so will sarah come back??? anyone know??

  17. John, according to Wiki, “The show has yet to be renewed for a third season.” But it only finished airing in December so who knows?

I don’t think Sam comes off as being mean at all. I had the same reaction when I saw Julia’s post. Not all of us here are omniscient and know who’s friends with who, thus if you make comments like that, you should expect people to react like Sam did.

  19. Vader, the bitter dark side is strong in you. Best gravatar ever though.

My omniscience extends to mere curiosity that shows me that Julia’s and Jimmy’s comment names both link to the exact same place. So I affiliate them in that way. Personally I think it’s good to be extra curious before demeaning someone, but I understand that a lot of people aren’t that curious.

Jenna, there is no set criteria for team membership since we’ve only done it once. Julia is a long-standing valuable contributor (at least in Bill’s and my opinion), plus her real life homework actually includes ratings analysis.

While she’s obviously not everyone’s cup of tea (I mean *cough* apparently even Jimmy only merely tolerates her), I like her attitude!

  20. Jesse

I liked it. Didn’t love it. His stand up specials are way better. But it has potential, and i’ll keep watching.

Honestly, I didn’t think he had the mass appeal to do well with ratings, so we’ll see if these numbers stick around next week.
