JAY AND CONAN STRETCH THEIR LEADS AMONG YOUNGER ADULTS, WITH JAY BEATING ‘LATE SHOW’ BY A 50 PERCENT MARGIN IN 18-34 VIEWERS AND CONAN TOPPING ‘LATE LATE’ BY 65 PERCENT

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – February 20, 2009 – NBC’s late-night lineup has won the week of February 9-13, with “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” out-delivering “Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” amassing a bigger audience than CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” in every key ratings demographic.

“Tonight” won the 11:35 p.m. ET hour by a 25 percent margin over “Late Show” in 18-49 viewers and “Late Night” beat “Late Late Show” at 12:35 a.m. by 22 percent. Both Jay and Conan stretched their leads among younger adults, with Jay topping Letterman for the week by a 50 percent advantage among adults 18-34 and Conan achieving a 65 percent margin over Ferguson.

Season to date, “Tonight” is delivering a 22 percent margin of victory over “Late Show” in adult 18-49 viewers and a 29 percent advantage in total viewers, while “Late Night’s” leads over “Late Late Show” are 25 percent in 18-49 and 3 percent in total viewers. Both Jay and Conan pull away among younger adults, with Jay leading the season by a 42 percent margin among adult 18-34 viewers and Conan winning by 61 percent.

For the week of February 9-13, Jay’s average 1.769 million adults 18-49 topped the 1.420 million of Letterman; in total viewers, Jay’s audience of 4.964 million persons beat Letterman’s 3.919 million; and in adults 18-34, Jay’s 742,000 out-scored Letterman’s 496,000. At 12:35 a.m. ET, Conan’s 964,000 adults 18-49 for the week out-delivered Ferguson’s 793,000; in total viewers, Conan’s 1.914 million trailed Ferguson’s 1.964 million; and in adults 18-34, Conan’s 490,000 topped Ferguson’s 297,000.

While “Late Night” trailed “Late Late Show” last week in total viewers, Conan generated bigger audiences than Ferguson in every key ratings demographic: adults, men and women 18-34; adults, men and women 18-49; and adults, men and women 25-54.

At 1:35 a.m. ET for the week, “Last Call with Carson Daly” pulled within a tenth of a rating point of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in adults 18-49. In the valuable adult 18-34 category, “Last Call” tied the ratings of both Kimmel and Ferguson (0.4 each).
