CW orders Melrose Place pilot. I don't see doing a whole post about it, but figured I'd post the info somewhere. this seemed like as good of a place as any:

" I will not be watching Ugly Betty, but then again I don’t watch most or perhaps any show whose core audience is women 18-34!"

You're hurting my dreams of an Ugly Betty/Supernatural crossover....

@Fin
On Wednesday Private Practice, stuck between 2 dudes, was the only survivor, if it's numbers were crap, what do you call the numbers of Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money, Elli Stone, Knight Rider, Life, Life on Mars, Lipstick Jngle, Terminator or even the Dollhouse?

Before the crossover PP's retention out of GA was around the same as Brothers and Sisters out of Desperate Housewives, in the 60-65% range. Now it was 75%. The cross over did make people give it another try, and some stayed on. It might not be a stand alone hit, but it's the only show that manages to get the GA people to stay tuned. It is the only hit out of GA since it moved to Thursdays. Lost did well in the slot, but Lost was already a established show...

It looks like Survivor is so strong it will bury Bones in 2nd place at 8pm for the remainder of the season. And in the battle for third place Ugly Betty's cleverly written hour of nonstop big laughs continues to outpace and outgrow a My Name Is Earl juiced by the comedic antics of superstar, Danny Glover. While I have to admit UB was without a doubt the funniest episode of any comedy on tv I've seen all year; I would love for Darnell and family of My Name is Earl to get a spinoff.

No, the sky's not falling at CBS. But, as Grey's Anatomy's ratings steadily increase and CSI continues to shed a million or more each week, it won't take long before there will be a meeting of the minds. Grey's already has built a huge advantage in the demo's. The gain in viewers after being much maligned by the media all season must be such sweet vindication for Shondaland. Lesson of the day- no matter how many times you get punched around and knocked to the ground, if you are a true winner you'll have the boldness to get up again and fight for your fans. And I don't know that they will be recognized by the Emmy association, but the performances by the primary stars over the course of the last two months has been phenomenal. Even the performances of the secondary role players has been chilling.

Finally, it's official! Private Practice became a stand alone hit last night with no crossover stars from Grey's Anatomy. Congrats to them and again a lesson on how great actors in great roles telling stories that arouse such high emotion from the viewers they transcend the gimmick that inspired it all.

Doug, see my comment way above. ABC Fantatic, I will not be watching Ugly Betty, but then again I don't watch most or perhaps any show whose core audience is women 18-34!

Mel, I wish I knew how much the average episode of Gossip Girl generated in advertising revenue for new episodes and repeats, and the same for Supernatural. I'd feel much more qualified to offer an opinion.

I doubt that's CSI's lowest episode in 18-49ers to date. When it first premiered, it aired on Fridays. In viewers, for original episodes only:

17.0/15.8/14.4/14.3/15.2/15.0/15.7/12.9/15.7/12.6/14.9

While I don't have the 18-49 data, I doubt that an airing Friday at 9pm that drew 12.9 million viewers got more than a 4.4 rating in adults. If you can correct me on this, please do.

"Speaking of Supernatural, did you ever notice how at least in the aggregate, the Thursday CW shows do better in repeats than some of the shows targeted at women 18-34 do with original episodes?"

Why, yes, Robert. Yes I have. It continually mystifies me how the CW does business. Its all very well and good to have a target audience and a brand and all that, but isn't it also kinda important to keep an eye on what is actually working -- not what you wish was working and not what your PR dept is trying to convince everyone else is working? Is it me? Or does Dawn have her head in her Prada briefcase?

Or am I just being goofy-- thinking that when your key shows are pulling less than 3 million viewers total -- no matter what the demo is -- it ain't all its cracked up to be?

I was kinda iffy on Dollhouse last week -- this week will be important . . .

Ouch, that's pretty low for CSI. Think Grey's will overtake it soon? And Betty's been going up for the past couple of weeks but it's still not looking good.

Ratings aside the return of Noah Wyle as Dr John Carter on ER was GREAT. His story arc by the episodes end was highly involving and very surprising.

I think in the case of the actress it's at least also what she WANTS to have happen. Since that's the GOSSIP column we don't know, but it is interesting she went as far as to say "we just got picked up for another season".

One of the Ugly Betty actresses said that Ugly Betty was renewed for a fourth season, but with no offical announcement I doubt: its just to stop people who think its cancelled from not watching it.

I think CSI might end next season. It's an excellent show, but it's about time. I think PP's ratings will drop even more next week.

I hope 11th gets picked up for another season, they added a new regular character to the show last night which seems to be a very good addition and helps to strengthen the show.

Yeah, it's scary when both CW Repeats outperform some new episodes of the "Brand," shows.

That says something. I'm not sure what, but it's something.

No, I'm not sure, just passing on what came in the report. No idea whether that is only for the Thursday 9pm slot (excluding Thanksgiving).

But Fridays in the fall of 2000 were a bit different than they are now, so it wouldn't surprise me if it included them.

I think CSI is having a problem working in LF's new character. With him being the new 'star' and his character not being the boss, its been a different type of show trying to put the emphasis on him. The other more established characters are barely in the stories since he joined.

I like LF as a actor and his character as well. He just shouldn't be the central focus of the show. Hopefully its just temporary to establish his character quicker. Its too bad the character didn't come in with more experience and be Gil's replacement. But that can't be changed now.

I wonder if Carter will die on ER as it fades to black and it turns out the whole show was just in his mind was a fantasy as he laid there dying? Sounds like Life on Mars with a pinch of St. Elswhere.

I've said this before, but I think we're going to see CSI skid downward for the remainder of the season. I wouldn't be surprised to see Grey's beating it in total viewers when May rolls around. William Peterson was the heart of that show. While Laurence Fishburne is a fine actor, the show just isn't the same. I really hope that CSI doesn't sputter around for 10 more years with a revolving door of cast members the way L&O has, but it just might cause the ratings will remain decent, albeit unspectular, in the next few seasons to come.

Actually, Joy Behar on Larry King Live yesterday was the one who kept calling her "The Octomom", which made her sound like a character from X-Men or something.

Really touching to see Carter return to ER. I confess, I have watched every season of ER since the start in 1994, I have barely missed a single episode in 15 years. I still watch it probably because it's comfortable, like an old friend I get together with on Thursday nights. The series finale will be a major tearjerker, for sure.

As for Hell's Kitchen, yes, I confess, I do watch it too, but I'm disappointed by its numbers this season. Not a fan of FOX deciding to put it Thursdays at 9:00. It clashes with my Office & 30 Rock hour and it also causes HK to suffer in the ratings.

Putting HK Thursdays at 9:00 causes it to lose old people to CSI, womento Grey's, and young people to Office-30 Rock. Not a smart idea for FOX.

ER is like an old moldy piece of bread. Its sooooooooooo old. Still watch it only because I watched it from the beginning. Sort of. I switch between that and TMZ to catch the latest adventues of OCTOMOM !! OCTOMOM should be the villian in the next spiderman movie.

Anywho - in 2011 after LOST ends, they should do Survivor: LOST where some of the cast of LOST as "The Others" pick off the Survivors one by one dragging them back to the compound and voting whether to released them or stick them in that gizmo in the Orchid station that sends people back to the mainland. At the start of each episode a flaming arrow lands on the beach with a note for their latest challenge - the winner is immune as usual from getting the boot. Im sure CBS and ABC could work something out.

According to Marc Berman, My Name Is Earl got 5.93 million viewers, but the same demo numbers. I know viewership numbers don't matter much, but the difference is interesting. Did someone have a typo?
