So thedemonhog, it's just coincidence that Lost got way better once they set the end date? In season 3, Lost started to flounder and wander. All those storylines with Anna Maria and Nikki/Pablo and the African priest, it was losing focus. Then, they made the agreement with ABC to end in 2010, and since then the show has been incredible.

So yes, it has to be a good show anyway, but if certain shows get set an ending date, it creates for a far more concise and dynamic storyline. A set end date CAN totally change a show's direction.

The sad thing about CHUCK is that NBC promoted the heck out of the worst episode of the series (3D), which was followed by a week off due to the president speaking, which was then followed up by two brilliant episodes that lost ratings. It is like CHUCK can't catch a break. And now NBC has decided to skip another week in two weeks so that the show can lead new episodes of HEROES. Every time the show takes a time off, outside of the 3D episode, the show drops in ratings and then builds up three weeks later. NBC seems to have no understanding of the CHUCK audience.

yeah, im actually wondering what were some of you thinking, suggesting to put heroes against lost...
im sure that the very few viewers heroes has left are from the same audience that watches lost. and i think they wouldnt hesitate to choose lost over heroes if they were up against eachother.

Re: Posts mentioning 'Lost'.

Setting an end date does not save a show. 'Lost' is not good because it has an end date; it is good because it is actually a good show. You cannot just throw an end date on 'Heroes' and expect that that will make things okay. Viewers are not just going to come back because they know that something is ending. Maybe for an episode or two, but the writing will ultimately have to prove itself to regain fans.

'Heroes' cannot move to Wednesdays at 9:00. That is the ultimate 'Heroes' killer. It is dying anyway, but this death is slow (in relative terms). Seeing as 'Heroes' was created because NBC wanted a serialized drama after noticing how successful 'Lost' was for ABC, there is likely no greater audience overlap among 'Heroes' watchers than with 'Lost'. And no one is going to choose 'Heroes' over 'Lost'. The ratings for 'Lost' will not change against 'Heroes', but a dent will be put in those of 'Heroes'. Not to mention the competition of 'American Idol', its lead-out and 'Criminal Minds'.

Wow, it's easy to overlook, but that Monday at 9 pm EST is a really competitive timeslot. Amazing that 3 really diverse shows do so well in total viewers and demos.

Oh, I concur, go Chuck!

I enjoy Heroes but Monday's episode was flat. It was called Cold Wars... a good name since it was as exciting as a stalemate. Nothing happened. The only vibrant and dynamic character on Heroes now is Sylar... and he wan't in it at all. Everyone else is predictable... especially after this episode. The only other wild card - Bennet - is now safely explained. I put the blame squarely on Tim Kring and the writers. Heroes has some of the best actors on TV. Especially Quinto and Coleman. There is no reason for Heroes become a melodramatic soap opera full of contrived plots.

Personally I hope Heroes is cancelled so that Quinto can move on. He IS a movie star. He looks like a leading man and has tons of talent and charisma. He can do action, comedy and romance. I can barely wait for Star Trek to come out. I hope he begins working on another movie soon!

"Chuck" is a Nielsen dud? Oh, well. Who cares. Here's my advice to Josh Schwartz and Chris Fedak. If you want to have shows that, like, actually do well, try coming up with a more creative show title than "Chuck." Did they really think that would inspire anybody to watch the thing? Even piss poor shows like "Grey's Anatomy" and "The Moment of Truth" got the title thing right.

P.S. Anybody who is still arguing that CBS might renew "Worst Week" should go stick their head in the microwave and give themself a tan (or whatever "wacky" things Sam accidentally did while slipping on banana peels and breaking stuff every worst week the world had to suffer through that wretched show). Aside from not even airing one episode, CBS shut off all on-air promotion for it in January. The series finale didn't even have a promo run during "Two and a Half Men." You know, the show that aired before it?

I just lost Pushing Daisies this season. I can't lose Chuck too!!! It's such an awesome show. I hate that there's even a question of whether it'll be back for another season.

CBS should move Old Christine back to this spot permanently. A repeat got 2 million more viewers than an original does on Wednesday! And I don't think there's any question that this show is far better than Rules of Engagement.

[...] Ratings from Monday: Even against weaker competition - CBS aired repeats and ABC aired a dumb, but potent “Bachelor” episode - NBC fell flat on its face again. “Chuck” [6.47 million, 2.2/6 18-49] and “Heroes” [6.92 million, 3.4/8] fell to series lows. Yikes. “Chuck” has been in a free-fall the last two weeks after a high-mark following the Super Bowl push. Meanwhile, FOX won the night with the successful duo of “House” [14.6, 5.4/14] and “24″ [11.6, 3.8/9]. [TV By The Numbers] [...]

Bryan Fuller has had very little to no effect on what we're seeing from Heroes right now. I believe his first official episode back with the show is Episode 20 and whilst he has had some say in shaping the final episodes of Volume 4 this is still mainly Loeb/Alexander/Kring at work.

Heroes needs to get out of the monday slot FAST! NBC will renew it for next season for sure, its 18-49 ratings will save it even though it just hit series low. Too bad to, I loved last night's episode to with BRYAN FULLER putting some life into the series again.

I'm so glad my favorite show is House! There aren't much shows who have this high ratings in it's fifth season. Totally deserved, best writing ánd acting on television!

I'm a little sad 'bout Chuck though.. it's such a cute show, I don't understand why people aren't watching it

I think you are exactly right, Robert. I think financially it would save them oodles of money to cancel Heroes with its bajillion/episode budget over Chuck; which despite its amazing quality, costs quite a bit less than Heroes. My hope is they move Chuck to a more compatible night (Wednesday, maybe?) for next year. We'll see.

i cant believe old christine did so well for a rerun. its did better than any first run episodes on wednesday this season. and even for a rerun, it was still the highest rated sitcom on Cbs second only to 2 and a half men. 9:30 was its time slot last year, so why dont they keep it their, Rules of enagagment isnt nearly as good. stick them on wednesdays.

Chuck Rocks..

It is not looking good for the chuckster, I am just going to enjoy it while it last.

Just want to add, this website is awesome. I found this media numbers site from, looking for "chuck" numbers.

Now a question...

Did Obama kill Chuck, or NBC by promoting the 3D ep. during the Superbowl?

Tony, I sense that you're a bitter Firefly fan. Do you also wish T:SCC would be canned too because of Summer Glau?

Your statement about Chuck being stand-alone is wrong. There is a mythology behind the show, which about half their episodes is focused on. I can understand why you think Chuck is so poor in quality if you had just watch the stand-alone episodes. Some of their stand-alone episode can be a little dull; such as the 3D episode.

Thankfully, the rest of season will focus on Fulcrum story-line.

i think CBS should move "Old Christine" back on it's original time. Moving it on Wednesday is obviously a bad idea.

and if NBC want higher numbers for Chuck and Heroes and i think they should change the schedule around

Yes! I hope that pile of standalone crap that is Chuck will get axed! Hopefully Baldwin can go on to do better projects. Heroes is painfully bad tv since season 1. If they have to keep one keep Heroes. On it's worst it's still 10 times better than Crap..I mean Chuck.

"Are people still making the (false) Chuck was/is never promoted argument? "

Alex...you got to understand something. If a show is doing bad in the ratings, internet fans will ALWAYS blame the network for not advertising it enough-no matter how much they spent advertising it. Chuck has been advertised a lot. Chuck is like on my top 3 shows, I love it, my dad loves it...but if it can't draw an audience, then speaking from buisness executive and not my fanboy side...Chuck isn't profitable and shouldn't stick.

But from a fanboy side....DON'T CANCEL CHUCK NBC!

Tom, the last thing Heroes needs is to have any momentum a final season might have be split in two during the Olympics. Heroes should have one final half-season of all new episodes, either this fall, or next spring AFTER the Olympics.

If I knew that Heroes was airing 13 FINAL amazing, killer episodes, I would watch it.

I'm not sure a reduced budget would work for a show whose entire premise is about people with extraordinary superpowers. It's bad enough with a high budget. Cheap, shlocky "The CW" style special effects would be pretty bad.

Instead of watching it die a slow death and be nothing like the great show it was during season 1, they should bring it full circle and set an end date, like LOST. I've said for along time that Heroes should be like Prison Break and Lost and have a set end date, preferably in a March-May block next Spring.

I’ve said for along time that Heroes should be like Prison Break and Lost and have a set end date, preferably in a March-May block next Spring.

I still think NBC need to look at moving Heroes to 8PM next year and using it as a lead-in because whilst its total viewers are horrible the demo numbers are still strong enough for something to benefit from running after it. If Fox doesn’t keep House on Monday’s next season NBC should just make the switch with Heroes and launch a new show at 9 or maybe bump Medium up to a 9PM slot on Monday’s, although I doubt they’ll do that.

As far as Chuck goes, as much as I’d like to see it move to the Thursday Night comedy line-up logistically I can’t see it happening unless they make some major creative changes and make it a 30-minute show rather than an hour. Outside of that I’m not sure where they’d put it that wasn’t Monday at 8 or Friday nights.

People -

Yes, NBC needs to move Heroes and/or Chuck off of Mondays. But where would they put it? NBC is now in the same pickle Fox is in with scheduling low-raters like Prison Break & Dollhouse. As far as NBC is concerned:
Tuesday is scheduled.
Thursday is mostly scheduled; this close to syndication, a Universal show (Earl) stays vs. a non-Universal show (Chuck), at least for next year.
Sunday (in Fall) is scheduled.
Friday & Saturday don't get the viewers to warrant those programming costs.

Which leaves Monday & Wednesday. Sure, Chuck & Heroes would do better on Wednesday (at least if/until Lost shows up). But is it worth harming their (probably) L&O and (definitely) L&O:SVU numbers by sacrificing them on Mondays to improve Heroes up until midseason?

No, the best outcome is to bring Heroes back for a final season on Mondays, with a reduced budget and a smaller cast. Remember that NBC has a huge awkward break in the middle of the year due to the Olympics; introduce your show-ending villain in an end of November cliffhanger and hope people come back in March.

Or they could just cancel it. But what do you program Mondays at 9pm with? ABC has women locked up, CBS has comedies, Fox has action, CW (probably still) has young women. What does that leave NBC with?

P.S. Please don't suggest NBC start a Friday action block. Just don't.

Oh no, hopefully Heroes stays safe! Hoping for a big boost in viewers come Episode 20 when Bryan Fuller comes back. I think the latest episode was the weakest out of the 4 of this volume, but it was ok.

Does anybody agree that Heroes is treading water at the moment?

Yeah that E!Online article is probably referring to this season. NBC won't cancel Chuck this season. Next season, however, could be a different matter. If NBC does bring back Chuck, it has to be on a different night. Just way too much competition on Monday

the E-Online post is a bit misleading. I am not worried at all about NBC cancelling Chuck this season, so from a certain slant, "don't worry, we're not cancelling it" is completely true. But that's different from whether it will be renewed for season three.

HEROES just costs too much to get these ratings... if it falls below a 3.0 in the demos, I can't see NBC bringing it back.

i dont even watch heroes anymore. They seemed to have changed the characters we liked and they did a 180 degree spin.
None of the characters i liked in the begining are even recognizable. i dont like them anymore.

As for Chuck it one of NBC's best shows i hope it dosent get sucked under the wake of Heroes as that show sinks...

Seems any of the Good shows that are worthy of an audence- The networks dont know what to do with them- Even some of the old time faves are getting tiresome.
The unit is great example- i liked that show-and i could see in my mind how a network suit said how can we get more women to watch and had the units wives become defacto unit members..and the stories went as well...
sigh...
chalk up another i dont watch anymore.

The best news for fans of Chuck and Heroes is that NBC is in total free-fall now. They simply cannot cancel everything. It is in their vested interest to keep the shows they believe creatively can be saved and/or have their costs cut. Just like NBC saved Friday Night Lights (and could still again), they probably see something salvageable in both shows. But please dont say they havent promoted these shows. I have never watched either show but feel like I have with the constant promotions, especially in front of 95 million Super Bowl viewers. Its own football-themed show, Friday Night Lights, received zero promotion during the Super Bowl.

Start preparing your eulogy for Heroes. It can't be a cheap show to produce and it's falling really fast. Their decision not to return after the writer's strike and instead leave viewers with a gigantic 10-month gap between seasons was the fatal blow. That's when I, and most people I know, stopped watching.

I never watched Chuck so I won't really miss it, but clearly NBC needs some more 1-hour shows of quality that aren't a Law & Order franchise.

Sitcoms are all I really watch on NBC anymore these days.

NBC could possibly bring back both shows, but definitely not both on Mondays. NBC has to do some massive restructuring on Monday nights. I think if Heroes stays above 3.0 in the demo, it will be back for only 13 episodes. Chuck, on the other hand, if it is able to bump its demo to 2.5 or so, it could be back for a full season or just back in the winter.
