“NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams” Wins The Week Drawing Nearly 10 million Total Viewers

“Nightly” Beats “World News” for Its 19th Consecutive Week By a Whopping
1.582 Million Viewers

NEW YORK – February 24, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of February 16-22, 2009. It was a strong week for the newscast as it averaged nearly ten million (9.988 million) viewers, an impressive +1.582 million more viewers than ABC “World News'” 8.406 million, and +3.258 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 6.730 million – marking its best advantage over CBS since the week November 3, 2008. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +748,000 viewers.

“Nightly” has won for 19 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for thirteen straight weeks in A25-54. “Nightly” has delivered over nine million total viewers for each of the last sixteen weeks.

Among the key demographic adults 25-54, “Nightly News” posted a 2.6 rating, way ahead of ABC’s 2.1 rating and CBS’ 1.6 rating. “Nightly” led “World News” by +626,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +291,000 A25-54 viewers.

Versus the same week last season, Nightly increased in rating W/M/A25-54 (+8%/+9%/+8%).

In homes, “Nightly News” kept far ahead of the pack growing to a 6.5 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 5.7/11, and CBS posted a 4.5/9.

On its digital platforms, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” continued its strong performance with more than 4.1 million online streams for the week ending February 21, 2009.
