‘NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams’ Wins the Week Drawing More Than 9.3 Million Total Viewers

“Nightly” Beats “World News” for Its 20th Consecutive Week 

NEW YORK – March 3, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of February 23-27, 2009. It was a strong week for the newscast as it averaged more than 9.3 million viewers, an impressive +894K more viewers than ABC “World News'” 8.429 million, and +2.885 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 6.438 million. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +754,000 viewers. 

Versus the same week last season, “Nightly” increased by +152,000 total viewers (+2%). “Nightly” has won for 20 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for fourteen straight weeks in A25-54. “Nightly” has delivered over nine million total viewers for each of the last seventeen weeks. 

Among the key demographic adults 25-54, “Nightly News” posted a 2.4 rating, ahead of ABC’s 2.1 rating and CBS’ 1.5 rating — its lowest A25-54 (000) delivery since the week of October 27, 2008. “Nightly” led “World News” by +306,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +291,000 A25-54 viewers. Versus the same week last season, Nightly increased in rating W/M/A25-54 (+13%/+5%/+9%). 

In homes, “Nightly News” kept far ahead of the pack growing to a 6.1 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 5.7/11, and CBS posted a 4.4/9. 

On its digital platforms, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” continued its strong performance with more than 3 million online streams for the week ending February 28, 2009.
