NBC Exec: Heroes Definitely Back For Fall

While this doesn't surprise me, and I counseled fans not to worry, our friend James Hibberd has the welcome news for fans of the show that Heroes will definitely be returning next fall, although with a smaller order of shows than typical. That could very well be part of the budget trimming I suspected would happen:

NBC plans to bring back “Heroes” for another season, said entertainment president Angela Bromstad.

The action-drama’s ratings decline has caused some media reports to speculate as to whether the show will return next fall. As part of Hollywood Reporter’s annual Q&As with the five broadcast network chiefs, Bromstad was asked if “Heroes” could be considered “on the bubble” for a renewal.

“No,” she said, and added that the network plans to order 18-20 episodes of the show for next season.

That's fewer hours than "Heroes" first or current third season, however, with season two having been cut short due to the writers strike.

    Screw Heroes..WE WANT CHUCK BACK

Let’s see what happens in a month or so when Heroes 18-49 will be around 2.5

  3. Um that press release talks about the importance of backing Heroes up with their “Day One” pilot. Heroes will supposedly help Day One, which the press release made it sound like they’re already ordering 13 episodes of.

So where does Chuck fall in? Certainly not Monday Nights in the fall…

Maybe Monday nights in the spring or a different weekday?

Also Heroes at 8/7c? It’s not exactly a happy family show.

“With a slightly shorter episode order, “Heroes” can then continue its usual pattern of airing with few breaks by virtue of debuting later in the season.”

So Chuck could still be on Monday in the fall. It also says “Day One” could be matched with Kings on Sunday.

18-20 episodes is more than i was expecting. I was thinking 13-15. But it’ll be back so I’m happy! Whether it stays mondays at 9 or moves somewhere else (i have a feeling sundays starting in January even though right now they’re saying fall) I will be watching.

“Save the good TV, cancel Heroes”

I can’t say any of this surprises me.

As the main article says Heroes remains tied with The Office as NBC’s biggest scripted show where it matters, the demos so they were always going to find a way to bring it back despite the falling numbers. They have however left themselves enough wiggle room here to back out should something disastrous happen over the remaining weeks of the current season. It looks to me as if this was a kill off the speculation move in an attempt to stop viewers leaving a show they don’t think will be back next year.

Best news of the day (of the week ? :D )
Don’t forget that next Monday’s the first ep. w/ Bryan Fuller, the global quality can’t be worse that Volume 3 (which was a complete disaster btw)
I still think that Heroes should have been at Thursday 10/9c, after The Office. Damn Leno u_______u
I can’t get why Chuck has bad demos. Maybe ’cause of the numerous pictures of Reagan in the show ? xD

    Chime in.

good news…that Day One seems like a sure pickup that is because it sounds interesting

My heart sunk when I saw this story on the front page, just because I feel like every success for every other show brings Chuck just a little closer to cancellation.

@Kikouwlol – I’m totally not a Reagan fan, but I can’t help laughing every time they show that picture in Casey’s apartment. :D

  11. the128boy

    what is Day One?

  12. T

Day One: drama which chronicles the aftermath of a global event that devastates the world’s infrastructures, leaving a small band of survivors to rebuild society and unravel the mysteries of why the event took place

  13. the128boy

t, thanks. sounds interesting from your description.

    Wasn’t that Jericho’s general premise?

I hate post apocolyptic stories. I prefer stories about preventing the apocolype – not dissecting why it happened.

Chuck!! I want Chuck for another season!!

  15. Jared

Day One sounds interesting. Even though it’ll get 80,000,000 comparisons to Jericho.

  16. Mel

Yeah, I can spell, why to you ask? Sheeesh
    Apocalypse

    Apocalyptic

    ditto to that!!!

  18. Day One sounds ok. Mostly I’m interested in seeing how they make it different from Jericho. I guess it’s supposed to be more Sci-Fi… But I dunno.

Also I assumed they’d put Heroes/Day One in the Fall just because as of now NBC doesn’t have a lot of too promising pilots…

But perhaps if Day One takes longer to produce, they could lead with Chuck + new pilot, then replace it with Heroes/Day One. But I was hoping Chuck would be the replacement, not the show getting replaced. We all know what happens to shows that get replaced mid season.

I could see Day One + Kings, but we don’t even know if that will be successful yet.

  19. called that one awhile back.

  20. P

I also want chuck for season 3, but did i miss something or could day one replace the 10pm show instead of 8pm?
