Mexican conglom Televisa brought the skein -- based on the original Colombian version titled "Betty la fea" -- to China last year through a strategic partnership, enabling them to work around stringent national production rules to gain full access to the nation's billion-plus population.

  1. So could they possibly be working out a deal to keep Betty coming? (Which would explain saying it’s coming back despite recent ratings.)

isnt this an entirely different version? i dont think its the american one with subtitles.

  3. Ah, I think I misread that.

  4. yes, it’s a different version, and so far as I know not related (other than general subject matter) to the US version.

  5. Julia, my subject line was probably the cause of confusion.

  6. cool

So it’s the mandarin version of ‘Betty La Fea’, not ‘Ugly Betty’ because UB is the remake and the other one is the original.

11 million viewers in a country of a billion seems pretty bad really. Unless there are ~600 million peasants who can’t afford TVs.
