WINS THE WEEK – BEATING THE COMPETITION BY 1.13 MILLION VIEWERS

“Nightly” Takes the Week in Total Viewers, A25-54 and Homes
NEW YORK – March 17, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of March 9-15, 2009. It was a strong week for the newscast as it averaged more than 8.9 million viewers, an impressive +1.126 million more viewers than ABC “World News'” 7.809 million, and +2.568 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 6.367 million. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +795,000 viewers. 

“Nightly” has won for 22 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for sixteen straight weeks in A25-54. Versus the same week last season, Nightly increased by +612,000 total viewers (+7%). 

Among the key demographic adults 25-54, “Nightly News” posted a 2.2 rating, ahead of ABC’s 1.9 rating and CBS’ 1.6 rating. “Nightly” led “World News” by +392,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. Season-to-date, “Nightly” leads “World News” by +305,000 A25-54 viewers. Versus the same week last season, Nightly increased in rating W/M/A25-54 (+9%/+17%/+10%). 

In homes, “Nightly News” stayed ahead of the pack growing to a 5.9 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 5.3/11, and CBS posted a 4.3/9.
