I’m 100% sure that the only reason Heroes is number 1 this week is because there was no new episode of LOST last week.

  2. Iceflame

I wonder why Lost went up despite there not being a new episode this week?

I must assume most of Heroes downloads are international, because at least in America the show is free on Hulu.(albeit with commercials) 1.7 million viewers is significant revenue for a site like Hulu, I wonder what’s stopping them from going international.

  4. dave, although I have never seen any US/non-US breakdowns, I think that’s a reasonable guess.

  5. Dave, what stops them (Hulu and other US providers of TV content) from going international is the way the International licensing rights are sold. In the current model, once sold, only the international license holder has a right to stream the shows. And in many (perhaps most) cases they never do because it’s much harder to make money online and they prefer people watch on TV.

It really is annoying for us NON US people waiting, but we’re only a week or two behind in Heroes so it’s really not that bad. Grey’s Anatomy and Brothers&Sisters are the shows I can’t wait for!

  7. dave

1.7 million viewers is a lot. International license holders need to figure out ways to cut into that figure. Even if online video isn’t viable, then airing it simultaneously with the U.S airdate would help a lot. But maybe that’s not allowed either.

Liban: I’m a Non-US viewer and we get Heroes the same time, same day as Americans.

  9. Fin

The problem for most networks with the same day airings are that most international schedules (like those on the UK for example) air in one long continous season (with no breaks) but as this doesn’t happen in America (only rarely) most channels prefer to wait a few weeks and then broadcast the second or first half of a season in its entirety. Thanks to the BBC fans of Heroes next week will only be one week behind the US and if theres another break for the US: those in the UK will actually thanks to BBC3 and the time zones Heroes before America in some senses.

Torrentfreak did a breakdown by country for the Prison Break premiere in September. 4% of downloads were from the US.
