Well let me think about that. Can it be that I was forced to do this because there is no other option to point at it or to have someone remove it? Have I mentioned that there is no such option yet?

Even though I have to say that the majority of the people here seem to be very mature as assuming these boards are never checked by anyone the posts are usually friendly + on focus. I’ve seen way worse boards.

+33% Good for them, Now if you’re a media executive and have a nicely growing business what do you do ? Provide the best content and keep it growing until the profits starts coming in or renegotiate the content deals and strangle the new business asap because it’s hurting your core business. The smart money seems to think it’s a better than 50/50 chance they’ll make the wrong call.

Dave three companies own Hulu although the name of the third one escapes me – its an equity firm though if memory serves me.

correct me if i’m wrong. But here’s my understanding of Hulu’s buisness model:

Hulu is owned by Newscorp/NBCU, So when a show gets viewed on Hulu the revenue is split between NBCU/Newscorp and the content provider.(possibly NBCU or Newscorp) What I don’t know is if the money goes to the studio that produces the show or the network that airs it. My guess is the studio because scrubs never showed up on Hulu last year even though it was an NBC show.(but ABC studios)

I heard they wanted to be profitable 5 years after launch. So they expect to be in the red for awhile longer.

Shawn, of course. But apart from their ownership share, NBC (and perhaps others in the ownership chain) gets paid from advertising revenue when NBC shows get viewed. When Fox shows get viewed, NBC does not get paid.

Bill, I’ve heard that HULU needs 500 million streams a month to just break even. Which they’re not at yet, but should reach soon. Of course at that point I’m told they’ll have to increase their power to support more people. So they’re dancing in the red ink for a while. The Networks however profit from it. HEROES which does the best is estimated to earn around $6M by seasons end from it. So not bad, but nothing to get excited about yet either. However if they’re right and that doubles in the next year, $12M *IS* something that the Studios would be excited about.

Sara, there are ads played during show viewing on Hulu. It is tiny compared with advertising during a primetime TV airing, but its not nothing. The networks get some of that money (we don’t know how much), and Hulu keeps the rest. There are not likely to be public financials for Hulu, but I doubt it is profitable currently.

Hmmm, guess the “evil plot” is working. Hope NBC and Fox take that into consideration when deciding to renew shows. But I won’t mention any specific shows. (*cough-CHUCK-cough*)
