WINS THE WEEK – BEATING THE COMPETITION IN TOTAL VIEWERS, A25-54 AND HOMES
NEW YORK – March 24, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of March 16-22, 2009. During the week, the Williams-led newscast averaged 8.6 million total viewers, +693,000 more than ABC “World News'” 7.906 million, and +2.521 million more than CBS “Evening News'” 6.078 million. Season-to-date “Nightly” leads ABC by 792K viewers.
CBS Evening News was labeled as a breakout on both Thursday and Friday (74% coverage, respectively) due to NCAA Basketball. David Gregory filled in for Williams on Wednesday and Thursday, Natalie Morales filled in on Friday.
“Nightly” has won for 23 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for seventeen straight weeks in A25-54.
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, “Nightly News” posted a 2.1 rating, ahead of ABC’s 1.9 rating and CBS’ 1.5 rating. “Nightly” led “World News” by +303,000 A25-54 viewers for the week.
In homes, “Nightly News” won with a 5.7 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 5.3/11, and CBS posted a 4.1/9.
On its digital platforms, “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” continued its strong performance with more than 4.1 million online streams for the week ending March 21, 2009.
