as noted earlier (no April foolery), CBS has canceled Guiding Light and it will air its final episode in September. While no announcement has been made about what will replace it, let the speculation begin:
A new version of "The $25,000 Pyramid" from Sony and producer Michael Davies ("Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") is one of the projects CBS is considering as a replacement for "Guiding Light."
Neither Sony nor CBS would comment. However, two people familiar with the situation said Mr. Davies and Sony have come up with a reworking of the classic "Pyramid" game show format designed to fit into CBS' daytime lineup.

Chris the TV Sage would approve of this hypothetical situation.
Followed by Press Your Luck.
While it is heartbreaking for a major part of TV history to finally be canceled, I agree with Chuck…they should bring back Press Your Luck to network TV.
Makes sense. I was commenting to someone earlier that game shows are cheaper to produce than soaps.
I agree with Chuck that Press Your Luck should come back. Even if they use the Big Board used in Game Show Marathon back in 2006, it would be great. The 2002 version shown on GSN is just plain crap. If a revival exists, use all the Whammy animations from the original run – including those not seen on GSN as yet.
I did read somewhere that As The World Turns may be on death watch also. Maybe that could be an opening for a revival of Press Your Luck. Press Your Luck hasn’t aired on a network on a daily basis since 1986, and we are nearly a quarter of a century overdue. The way the recession is going, network game shows are likely to come back after 20 years.
Actually a new version of Press Your Luck has been airing on GSN for a while now. Albeit, its a watered-down version of the original. A higher budget version would be much better on CBS again. Though GSN might now have the rights to it.
To those crying about GL going away, be honest with yourselves. The show has been garbage since it went to the new way they were filming. The camera angles were awful. The coloring of the scenes was bad. And all the best stars have been fleeing from the show! They lost Harley, Gus, the good Cassie, Jonathan, Tammy, etc. It has been BRUTAL. It is time for this once great show to go away!
As for ATWT, it is still pulling in o.k. numbers. And if ATWT goes away, are you proposing Press Your Luck be an hour long? That will absolutely not work, nor will it ever happen
As a long time Guiding Light viewer, I have to say that the best days of the show are certainly behind it. As has been said, stars are fleeing the show, not to mention the lack of viewers. You cant continue as eighth of eight shows on TV. It it time to give GL six months notice and let it go out with some dignity.
OMG…..please not another reality or game show……I just can’t stand them….how about making The Bold and The Beautiful 1 hour and change it to the 3:00 pm timeslot so all of my soaps can be recorded consequitively or a new soap opera…..after all these days all we have is to live someone elses life vicariously…..please, please, please…..no more Maury, Dr. (fake) Phil, Oprah or any other made up bullcrap show…..no reality either as that is fake and made up as well…..game shows make me want to shoot the screen out…..how about a movie….something we haven’t seen 125 times though
This is total BS. GL is the only soap that I have watched consistanly. I hate, hate game shows!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!! : @
I have watched GL for approximately 30 years. It is sad to see a great soap opera to be lowered to what it is now. You can blame CBS for hiring horrible writers. In the “glory days” GL had very talented writers and excellent storyline. It is sad soap opears budgets were cut and the “reality shows” have unlimited budgets. My fear is CBS will add some other “Judge ?? Show”, re-runs of so called “reality shows”. GL may you RIP!
MATCH GAME! thats all im gonna say
I Love the “pyramid” the classic clock tick and all of the drama of watching someone go for the big win. Without the drama making you sit on the edge of your seat, and big money for present day viewers, there is no pyramid. looking forward to it.
