So I wonder if Guiding Light will get more viewers as it is ending. Good for Young and the restless; love the Kathrine and Jill cake fight this week!

  2. sally

Is there an old soap opera network out there.
I would like to see the Guilding light from 2o years ago
when it was at its best.

  3. Why don’t soap get more attention from the entertainment media?

  4. Mikey M

I used to watch Days of Our lives every so often because I grew up with it but all the good characters are gone and its been taken over by the 20-somethings.

  5. Today I think Soap Opera TV Ratings,The Young and The Restless The Bold And The Beautiful, and General Hopsital in the new website to go online.

I absolutely HATE that Thao Phenglas is gone…he was the first DiMera on the show, even before Stephano. He is one of a kind, and all 3 girls in my house adored him, ages 56,32 and 17 (how’s that for demo appeal !!).As well as the fact that he has cross cultural appeal and is so popular in his homeland of Australia, as well as Europe. As much as we love Stephano, I would rather he had been written off for a while, and let the 2 dashing dimera brothers clash over power against the two young, dashing Kiriakis men, Brady and Phillip. Why did the story writers shoot themselves in the foot by removing future story lines with the demise of Tony? I will keep him as my screensaver, and keep his hansdome face in my heart as a sign of hope for the male population…class, charm and gentility do exist!

Now that I’ve had my rant over Thoa Phenglas’s departure from Days, I will comment on what’s good on the show. I hate Nicole…don’t get me wrong, that’s a good thing. Arrianne Zucker (Nicole) has been able to make me dislike her in so many ways since coming on the show a few years back, that I am amazed that her performance hasn’t gone stale or predictable. She is real, and unfortunately reminds me of several young women I know ( certainly not plotting murder or kidnapping, but in other ways). She is the center of her own universe to the point that we can hate her, and yet she can make us cry at the injustice( in her own mind) of it all. How many times have we wondered why otherwise intelligent men haven’t been able to see through some notorious vixen? Nicole is the poster child of the manipulative, self indugent nymph who devours men and leaves them wondering what hit them. We all know women like that, and a few men who were blindsighted. We hate them…and all wish we had a little of whatever she has that makes men putty in her hands.

    What’s good on Days…Part II
The obvious is that Alison Sweeney is talented and beautiful. The not so obvious is that she makes every scene she is in important. Some days I’m in a hurry and have to speed through the show …but I find I always watch her scenes from beginning to end. I find myself rooting for her, like I would my child who finally ‘gets it’ when it comes to some life lesson. I am cheering, laughing, crying, and shaking my head ‘no, no!’ when she makes bad decisions. Sometimes I think her character is valiant, sometimes cowardly, always interesting. She is real, flaws and all. Is Allison Sweeney’s ‘Samantha’ a heroine of the show? That would be an imperfect characterization. She is more a vehicle for the viewer to participate in the storyline. She takes us with her on an adventure. We root, cheer and cry because she is not a heroine, but just one of us…which is so much better.

i still say that if they would have given guidinglight the markets it needed and the right time like back at #pm instead of 10am it would have stood a chance, but as I see Cbs didnt want to change anything so that is why they are canceling it. We the soap fans have got to step up and fight for not just guidinglight , but for all soaps, In the last few years we have lost Portcharles, sunset beach, Passions, another world loving, city, and now Guidinglight. How many are they going to get rid of befor e we have a real say in saving these shows. Even Days is on borrow time from the network Nbs, thats the reason they are getiing rid of the actors, and actress’s. Please help and svae guidinglight and the rest of day time by calling 1-866-695-1859 or go to guidinglight web site, we need all the support of everyone if we ahve a chance to save this show. Its not if you dont watch guidinglight its for all daytime!!!!! Thank you Steve

  10. After 25+ years covering all things soaps on my Seattle TV show Northwest Afternoon, it makes me so sad to see the numbers dwindling year after year. We still entertain a good soap crowd on my site/blog but I worry how long we can keep our visitors if they continue to ax the beloved soaps that defined the genre.

  11. Shem

I wouldn’t say dwindling; soaps number have increased compared with last year.
