Friday Ratings: CBS wins with mostly repeats, Dollhouse looks done

Scoreboard CBS ABC FOX NBC CW
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 1.6/6 1.6/5 1.3/5 1.2/4 0.7/2
Total Viewers (million) 7.81 5.28 3.42 4.02 1.60

CBS  won the night despite two out of its three shows being repeats.  The results for Dollhouse should finally end any discussion of the show's renewal prospects, unless DirecTV plans to save it in the same fashion it saved Friday Night Lights and there are at least a couple of reasons why that doesn't seem likely for Dollhouse (it doesn't  have the 40+ 37 episodes under its belt with critical acclaim that FNL had before the first deal and it doesn't match DirecTV's "football exclusives" pattern).

Otherwise Dollhouse is done on FOX after it finishes its run.  But this being the Internet I'll have to endure hearing about how wrong I am probably at least until the upfront announcements of next year's schedule in late May.

You can compare with previous Friday overnight reports.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  2. rick

wow tscc and dollhouse are definately done

  3. Anil

Ugh! Maybe its good enough for a friday night. With DVR, its up to 4 -5 million.
And SCC is season finale next week? How? Its not geting canned? If its not than DH wont either….?

  4. Jack

What? TSCC went down again? Last nights ep was so good. these numbers must be wrong.

  5. ljo

Yeah, about the only thing Dollhouse fans can say this week is that it beat FNL in the demos.

  6. Anan

Ok, tell me if I’m wrong…but arent those Dollhouse numbers GOOD? Look at all the friday nights shows… its all in the 1′s for 18-49 category. Its not just dollhouse thats on the bubble?

  7. Tenacious

I look forward to saying haha to tvbythenumbers when sarah connor chronicles gets renewed. Dollhouse is bad.

  8. blazdone

i’m a die hard terminator fan, and even i’ll admit that its done.

but since it does well internationally and on DVD sales, i wouldn’t be surprised if warner bros produces a DVD movie to wrap the series all up and can be broken up into two additional episodes for syndication purposes. at least that’s what i hope…

“Ok, tell me if I’m wrong…but arent those Dollhouse numbers GOOD? Look at all the friday nights shows… its all in the 1’s for 18-49 category. Its not just dollhouse thats on the bubble?”

The numbers are bad for starting above a 2.0 demo (2.1 I think). The show has just completley collapsed. ABC is reality which is cheap, so the 1.5-1.8 is acceptable. CBS was mostly repeats. NBC is just a failure as is the CW.

  10. nomark1

Fox should air WWE Smackdown on Friday instead My Network, WWE Smackdown could bring in strong rating for FOX.

  11. Anan, you’re wrong. ;) Everything else last night was either in repeats or much cheaper than Dollhouse or TSCC, either because it’s reality or the price is shared (Flashpoint and Friday Night Lights.) So while everything else can survive (even though not all of them necessarily will) with these numbers, Dollhouse and TSCC cannot.

  12. KG

Not good for Dollhouse, not at all. :( At least move it to a new freaking time slot and give it a CHANCE. Damn.

  13. Jack

The only upside of these awful numbers is Dollhouse is going down 2. Worst Show ever!!

  14. Michael

Robert, you’re not even bothering anymore to try to convince people that TSCC is done.

  15. Boris

I’m still wondering why the “World Series” example refers to “the live football game.”

  16. clutz

But Dollhouse was a 1.3/4 in the demo last week. This week it’s a 1.4/5 in the demo. Thats UP! See? It’s trending UP now! As long as it ticks up about 0.1/1 each week…or every two weeks…or twice more at some point to pull it to 1.6/7 or so in the demo, Dollhouse will be fine. ;)

  17. RJ

“Fox should air WWE Smackdown on Friday instead My Network, WWE Smackdown could bring in strong rating for FOX.”
FOX can’t just air WWE Smackdown because its on its sister network MyNetworkTV. Although, it is possible that MNTV could come in third place for the night if Smackdown had a strong rating! (Third in demo, fourth in viewers)

  18. RJ

“But Dollhouse was a 1.3/4 in the demo last week. This week it’s a 1.4/5 in the demo. Thats UP! See? It’s trending UP now! As long as it ticks up about 0.1/1 each week”
In finals last week it went up to a 1.4, so its even.

  19. clutz

But RJ, the finals for this week are not posted here. The finals might tick up just as the early overnights did ;)

“But RJ, the finals for this week are not posted here. The finals might tick up just as the early overnights did.”
Let’s take a look at this. Dollhouse fans blamed the NCAA for low ratings last week (which had over a 3.0 demo). If its even this week, whats the excuse? Power outage? New movie? GIVE ME A BREAK!
