The Renew or Cancel Index will next be updated on April 21

I've broken each network's data for scripted shows out into its own separate post to keep the discussions more on topic, find them at the links below.

UNSCRIPTED SHOWS FOR ALL NETWORKS

For unscripted shows, the results from last season were far less cut and dried. A similar relationship did seem to hold between 18-49 averages, but some unscripted shows survived with very low numbers. My conclusion was that some unscripted shows must be so cheap that they are expected to do little more than fill air time and produce little in the way of viewership. Since we, and you, don't care much about unscripted shows, and the Index isn't all that good in predicting their future, I don't worry about predictions, but here is the data for reference.

All viewership numbers are Live+SD.

We found that last season, the future of a show was nearly directly related to its adults 18-49 average viewers divided by its networks 18-49 average viewers. Many other factors may matter, but they all seemed to boil down to that one number. Last season, if a show had better than 92% of its network’s average 18-49 viewership (0.92 in our index) it was pretty safe, below that level it was in danger.

Will there really be no update next week or is it just a date mix up?

  2. No update next week. I will be traveling.

  3. Mikey

You guys are crazy to close the comments to the story on Chuck!

It’s like Daily Kos refusing to take comments about Dick Cheney.

Then again I never read any comments on Chuck so it’s easy for me to say.

  4. Mikey, we had server problems on Tuesday and comments loading puts extra strain on the system. It’s not like Chuck shot anyone on a hunting trip! ;)

I hope FOX keep dollhouse. It’s ratings are a little better than Sarah Connor and it gets better critical acclaim.

I believe if it’s is renewed, Fox will give the show a good time slot and it will find it’s audience. I believe the time slot is to blame. Not the show it’s self.

  6. Albert P

Does anyone here know if Heroes has gotten renewed yet?

  7. Albert, NBC said that they intend to renew it, but there has not been any official renewal yet.

  8. Dan

I hope FOX keeps TSCC. It’s ratings are just as good as Dollhouse and it gets better critical acclaim.

    See what I did there?

  9. TSCC ratings are not as good as Dollhouse. More importantly, as others have pointed out here, Dollhouse’s problems is that it’s getting close to TSCC ratings. So arguing that TSCC ratings are as good as Dollhouse really ignores the fact that both of them are horribly bad.

And the time slot isn’t to blame. The Monday night ratings were poor for season two, and the fact that it was put up against heavy competition is an excuse, not a reason. The reason Fox put it there was because they expected a show based on Terminator to be capable of surviving in that time slot.

The problem was – the show wasn’t Terminator, it became a muddled family drama.

Heroes will be renewed, the 5th volume is going to be called Redemption. You can read more details about the shows next season here:

    duh….

  12. Richy

I’m not too bothered about Dollhouse as that has been very, very disappointing for me.
Terminator has been a pleasant surprise and the season 2 finale was excellent. It would be a pity for that to get the chop, but I’ve been expecting it almost since the show began.

Does anyone knows if NCIS and House,MD has been renewed or if they will be renewed.

Please let me know, they are my two favorite shows and I am not seeing or hearing

anything about ncis and house being renewed.
