This morning I got the following e-mail from my brother:
Per Yahoo, Obama is a fan of "" and "The Wire". And specifically, of Omar
Because I am a big fan of, and loved The Wire, and the Omar character was definitely one of the most compelling characters I'd ever seen on television, I had to Google it to find out if it was true that I had something in common with the president. Obviously he is better at picking the NCAA men's basketball championships than I was. He picked North Carolina, and they did win it all. I picked Pittsburgh, and they didn't.
Anyway, I found the original article written by Politico's Amie Parnes, and indeed Obama is a fan of The Wire:
But some of Obama's choices definitely have an edgier bent - such as the HBO drama "The Wire." His favorite character is Omar, a gay stickup artist who steals from drug pushers to give to the poor. ("That's not an endorsement. He's not my favorite person, but he's a fascinating character," Obama said last year.)
I agree with that completely!
Obama also takes in a lot of sports, and with his kids cable favoritesSquarepants and Hannah Montanna.
It was no surprise to me that Obama was a fan of this one was no exception:and the article goes into some depth of why that is. And because all articles from the media elite ultimately come back to ,
At a recent town hall in California, Obama joked with one man in the crowd who asked him a question. "Everybody likes you, man," he told the man as the crowd cheered. Then he turned to the crowd and asked, "What is he on, like, '' or something? ... I didn't recognize him, but maybe. Is he a movie star?"
After the "" mention, Internet users posted it on YouTube exclaiming, "President Obama watches ' '!"
Somewhere Dawn Ostroff is smiling.
