TNT cancels Trust Me

Hardly a surprise to fans who'd been following the ratings, or noticing that TNT had been burning off multiple episodes of Trust Me at a time,  but still unfortunate for the fans who enjoyed the show.  From The New York Times:

“Trust Me,” a comedy-drama about a make-believe advertising agency in Chicago, was canceled by TNT on Friday after a single season. It “achieved creative success,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and TCM in Atlanta. “It just didn’t find an audience.”

It had an horrible pilot, but it grew on you, and quite pleasant. Good while it lasted. Is it to soon to talk about the Will and Grace curse?

Lame – although I always found myself watching it last on my list of DVR’ed shows, I thoroughly enjoyed Trust Me as I work in advertising and marketing myself. What a shame.

  3. I knew it was coming, but still a bit sad. I watched every episode and thought it had a strong ensemble, but the writers never found a niche and it sent the show into a tailspin. If you saw one episode you felt like you saw them all.

Hopefully Eric McCormack, Tom Cavanagh and Monica Potter will all go on to other successful projects. Cavanagh still reminds me of the crazy kid on the playgroud who eats bags of sugar for breakfast, lunch and dinner … but he’s funny and he clearly enjoys comedy.

That sucks. I liked this show. It never quite hit its stride, but it had potential.

  5. David

What a bummer! I love this show. Such a great ensemble cast. Very funny.

  6. cool

The most shocking news of 2009 :P

Not a surprise as the ratings fell like a stone after its dissapointing debut with The Closer lead in. Tom Cavaugnh does seem have a curse with shows he’s been in as the lead cancelled after a series, Ed being the exception and same with Eric McCormack.

  8. jim

never watched it, but it had 2 of the least likeable leads on TV.

  9. RJ

    *GASP* :D

It took too long to find its voice and by that time a lot of viewers gave up, but I stayed around and it finally started hitting its stride. I think the show might of had a better chance had it premiered in the summer when not a lot of shows are on and then viewers might have hung in there longer. At least I enjoyed the show while it lasted.

i love how they advertised it as “TNT’S hit new seires Trust Me”

    before it even aired

    This show wasn’t good.

Eh, whatever. The pilot was downright atrocious, gave me no hook to pull me back for episode 2. Too bad, cause the cast was solid. Despite being so fluffy (overall), Leverage was the superior show of the 2; TNT made the right choices there.

that is too bad.. I know the pilot wasn’t great.. it failed to get attention

from audiences.. but it was great show.. I think they had to develop more than

    used to be…

TNT certainly gave it a chance to succeed since it was heavily promoted, just about everywhere. Maybe some people thought it sounded too much like “Mad Men” to give it a sampling. As for “Leverage” (the place where I first saw the ads for “Trust Me”) it gave me a reason to watch TNT again.

No curse here. The writers did not know how to do a buddy relationship. It rang more hollow than even making Monica Potter a typical ” whining bitch.” Nothing wrong with the concept or the actors – the writing was hideous.

It seems to me another case incorrect promtion. When the advertisements would come on TNT (way to many times) it seemed like a comedy. The ads were suppose to be funny. It kind of looked like a “bromance” story, Eric and Tom. I watched the first 15 minutes of the show and it was boring. Never went back. NBC did the same thing with Kings. The ads were kind of boring and Hitler-esque. Did not appeal to me what so ever. I was watching SyFy the other night and it came on, and I watched four episodes of it and really enjoyed the show. Another time when promotions killed a show.

I am sorry to hear that TNT is canceling this show. It finally grew on me and I was looking forward to next season. Why do they do this. It takes time to develop a following. I think they should have tried 1 more season. But who am I to say anything. I’m just a TV viewer.

  19. Too bad. I loved the show, and it was a “must see” for me. I thought it had very witty writing and a solid cast, and it certainly seemed to show the advertising world the way it really is. Loved all the back-stabbing office machinations, which was pretty much real to most corporations, not just advertising. It’s a treat to see a well-made show which isn’t a crime show or a medical drama, and I always love to see a show set in the Windy City. I’m not surprised to see it being canceled, however, as it seems to have been too smart for most people.

I rushed home from a flight from NYC so I would not to miss Trust Me only to diacover it has been cancelled.

Loved the leads and smart dialogue. Loved the wonderfully quirky, needy Sara Krichek- Hunter.(Am an independent mother of 5 independent daughters & found this character amusing & endearing- not at all offensive) A smart, witty, neurotic ensemble. Loved it – even got my husband hooked.

Have been a fan of The Closure & very much liked when Trust Me followed it on Monday night, but we were willing to commit to Tuesday for TM.

I guess this falls under the the “instant gratification” catagory for the network – - a real loss for the viewer. How sad.
