[now updated with data tables below].
NBC went from worst on Wednesday night to first on Thursday night (at least in terms of the demos, which, are more important than the total viewers), so that at least has to be considered a success for NBC. Sure, ABC ran repeats from 9p-11p, but Southland increased from half hour to half hour, which is usually a good sign. Harper's Island decreased from the first half hour to the second, which usually isn't a good sign.
CSI didn't have one of its better nights, even though Grey's Anatomy was a rerun. But at least an aging Survivor is still going strong. Meanwhile, Samantha Who? probably now has removed all doubt (if there was any left) about it being lead-in and time slot dependent. It hardly did better than In the Motherhood.
Next week Two weeks from now should tell more of the tale for Southland and Harper's Island since Private Practice won't be a repeat at 10p.

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

i was pretty spot on with my predictions
not bad for Southland considering that the premiere was available onDemand and online for about a week.
well i said anything below a three would be a failure for HI.
Nice increase for Southland. Could this mean it may actually have a shot of increasing next week?
That’s about what I thought.
Well, I guess that’s one less slot for Chuck. (Sorry, but somebody had to say it.)
Pretty expected numbers.
the thing is this fall, they were planning to put Kings where Southland is. I can’t help but think Kings would have done a lot better in that slot.
Good premiere from southland. i don’t expected so many viewers.
by better I mean better than it did on Sundays, not better than Southland did.
Good for Southland, should be interesting to see if it’s able to increase its viewers next week… I think it can.
Harper’s Island is a mini series anyway buti was hoping it would succeed so we could have more similar formatted limited series (NBC is already big on Day 1)
i havent seen Harper’s yet so wont comment on quality but i hated Southland and Parks was very so so good lead performance but that was about it
southland was really good..especially the last half..very compelling TV
with a fresh episode next week, expect big increases especially thos interested in Harpers were ultimately turned off
I’m not surprised by HI. I watched a few mins of it during commerical breaks of Southland (which was awesome – great character development) and it was cheezy.
Southland will fall harder than XFL did next week.
I liked all three new shows…however I think I would choose Harper’s Island over Southland (but with a PVR you don’t have to choose
And this coming from a hater of all things CBS…
And I loved Parks & Recreation!
Heather, I wouldn’t speak too soon. This will be the highest numbers that Southland ever receives, I predict a sharp nosedive next week.
If that doesn’t happen, THEN you can start saying Southland will be taking a spot that could go to Chuck next season. Not before then though.
Southland was great so im happy too see it had pretty good ratings
why does everyone think southland will fall next week?
with gains like that over the half hour….wouldnt u think twice
NBC: #1 in the demo, #3 in viewers. I called it.
