I posted about the SpongeBob Squarepants / Burger King commercial yesterday.  Some find it scandalous.  Some just find the King creepy.   Below are two videos.  One is an almost two and a half minute music video the spot is derived from, and the other is the ad itself.  Judge for yourself.

The music video:

The actual commercial spot:

How much you want to bet one network will make a show with the King?

  2. MockingbirdGirl

Freakin’ hilarious! BK claims that it’s airing “only during adult shows targeting adult audiences” — and if true, I’ve got no problem with it.

  3. johnthemon

    I think it’s kidn of funny…I guess.

I agree with MockingbirdGirl that it should only be on in like Saturday Night Live, Adult Swim, and other late-night stuff.

  4. Jared

    hahaha, just really odd.

  5. It’s sad if the nation’s youth can’t handle this nonsense.

It’s not like toddlers would understand the references and it’s not like any kid older wouldn’t understand the references.

Adults really are out of touch with their children if they believe that.

The whole episode is one more case of PC gone mad.

I saw this ad, sometime last week. Can’t remember what I was watching. It must have either been Lie To Me or Southland…

Anyway, I’m surprised the ad made it past the agency and BK execs…

is it appropriate for themt o play that song at my middle school dance? no

  8. mikfmjfhdsfb

    but who cares right?

  9. Michalea

    Weird…just weird.

I don’t find it as much offensive as I find it stupid; perhaps bordering on tasteless. I have a seven year old who walks around shaking her butt like SpongeBob. She saw the commercial on Nick at Night the other night and even SHE said it looks stupid.

  10. Mega64

I find the shape of their posteriors offensive, and I demand the government step in so that this nation’s children shall be protected from the evils of misshapen buttocks!

  11. Lisa

Yet another commercial that objectifies women. Of course it offends me. I don’t think sexism is funny or cute.

  12. Andrea

It’s just weird to combine SB, a children’s character, with a rap about women’s posteriors. Unless, SB has a high adult appeal…wait, what are the 18-49 numbers for SB?

  13. HeroesforGhosts

I actually find the king to be incredibly creepy.

  14. Jack

Women don’t actually have square asses. It’s objectifying a cartoon character. Oh the horror.

  15. RLH

boycott BK , till it’s pulled

  16. In the immortal words of Sergeant Hulka from Stripes, “Lighten up Francis”. It’s a commercial for cartoon character that does in fact have a flat butt. Speaking of which, Spongebob Squarepants isn’t exactly the tamest show ever. If your kids can handle that, they can handle this ad.

  17. sam

i REALLY REALLY hope some of you are being sarcastic…….i mean holy man get over it just change it if you dont like it bitch about something else its not that bad

  18. The King is creepy with a capital C.

My main question is “How does this help sell Whoppers?”

  19. Jenna

HAHAHAHAHA that’s great…I love it! Silly…and great. And yeah anyone who finds this offensive REALLY needs to lighten up!

  20. The actual commercial is just dumb. IMO. Is the same people in charge of NBC now running Burger King.

    Weird indeed.
