Quick Take for Monday, April 13, 2009

(National Live + Same Day Program Ratings)

Monday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC stood as the most-watched network (13.9 million) on the Monday night for the 7th week in a row. ABC also ranked No. 1 on the night among Women18-49 (4.8/12) and Women 25-54 (6.0/14), including a 13-week streak among Women 18-49.

“Dancing with the Stars” (8:00-9:32 p.m.)

ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” led its time-slot in Total Viewers (19.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (4.6/12), winning its time period in viewers for the 6th week running. In addition, “DWTS” qualified as Monday’s No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers, Women 18-49 (6.6/16) and Women 25-54 (8.2/19) for the 6th time in as many weeks.

“Surviving Suburbia” (9:32-10:02 p.m.)

ABC’s “Surviving Suburbia” demonstrated strong retention from its week-ago series debut of 86% in Total Viewers (9.7 million vs. 11.3 million) and 87% in Adults 18-49 (2.6/6 vs. 3.0/7), while posting gains among Teens 12-17 (1.5/5 vs. 1.4/4). Additionally, the freshman comedy took second in its time slot among Women 18-49 (3.7/9) and Women 25-54 (4.6/10).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 30% currently, from 23% at the same point in 2008.  More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
