from an AP Story (via USAToday.com):
The future of The Beast and Swayze's continued participation remain unclear, according to A&E President Bob DeBitetto, who's waiting to see how the season's final two episodes score. Airing at 10 p.m. ET Thursdays, the series concludes its season April 23.
Since premiering in January, The Beast has logged an average weekly audience of 1.3 million viewers, "which gets us to second base," DeBitetto said. "We're kinda used to hitting triples here, or better."
But neither ratings nor A&E's declared pride in the series can dictate whether The Beast will get a second-season pickup. The overriding question mark, of course, is Swayze's fight against pancreatic cancer.

This is what they really mean…
“We will cancel the show based partly on ratings, but in the end blame Swayze.”
Swayze said in January he was up for another season of the show as soon as they want to make it.
They better not even think about canceling this.
Patrick is a wonderful guy, I worked with him on the entire series they don’t get nicer than this and what a fighter. I sure hope the whole “set” family is back again for season 2. It was a pleasure.
this show kicks ass!!! i am sitting here watching the season finale and i hope that there is a second season
It is a very good show and Patrick Swayze can be proud of his performance. The finale was touching as the prospect of his character disappearing was weighted with the reality of his struggle.
IF the show continues, and I hope it does, the current cast of characters could continue on..in a slightly different direction..and be successful.
I hope A&E continues with the show.
