for Cupid, it looks like it employed the questionable tactic of comparing last night's preliminary numbers to last week's final numbers.  Cupid fell in the final numbers last week because the Dancing with the Stars overrun was factored out.  It will get factored out again for last night, and those preliminary results will drop too.  Comparing preliminary numbers to preliminary numbers, Cupid did still improve week over week, from last week's 1.7 rating with adults 18-49, to a 1.8 last night.

Growing Over the Prior Week in Viewers and Adults 18-49 for the

2nd Straight Week, "DWTS Results" Wins the 9pm Hour in Viewers

"Cupid" is Up Week to Week by 16% in Viewers and by 13% in Adults 18-49

"Dancing with the Stars Results" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Growing week to week for the 2nd week in a row, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars Results" turned in its second strongest numbers of the season in both Total Viewers (14.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.4/8). Ranking as the second-most-watched show on the night behind Fox's "American Idol-Tuesday," "DWTS Results" won the 9 o'clock hour, beating CBS' "The Mentalist" (12.1 million) by 2.7 million, Fox's "Idol-"boosted "Fringe" (11.5 million) by 3.3 million and NBC's "Biggest Loser: Couples" (9.9 million) by 4.9 million. Reality star Steve-O was the sixth celebrity dancer eliminated from the competition this season.

"Cupid" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Cupid" was up over the previous week by 16% in Total Viewers (6.6 million vs. 5.7 million) and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (1.8/5 vs. 1.6/4).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 31% currently, from 24% at the same point in 2008. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
