CBS PICKS UP "THE Amazing Race" FOR ITS 15TH SPRINT AROUND THE WORLD

CBS has ordered the 15th edition of the six-time Emmy Award-winning reality series THE Amazing Race, hosted by Phil Keoghan, for broadcast during the 2009-2010 season.

THE Amazing Race 14 is currently averaging 10.94 million viewers, 3.4/08 in adults 18-49 and 4.3/10 in adults 25-54, winning its time period in all these measures in four of its last five broadcasts.

Host Phil Keoghan is currently on a 40-day, 3,500 mile bike ride across America www.philridesacrossamerica.com, which ends in New York City on May 9, the day before the season finale of THE Amazing Race 14 on Sunday, May 10 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).

Casting is already underway for the 15th edition. Keoghan will be appearing at open casting calls throughout his ride with upcoming stops in Chicago (April 24), Pittsburgh (May 1) and New York (May 8).  Applications are also available at www.cbs.com/amazingrace.

THE Amazing Race has won the Emmy Award for "Outstanding Reality-Competition Program" every year since the category was created six years ago.

Jerry Bruckheimer, Bertram van Munster and Jonathan Littman are the executive producers for Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Earthview Inc., in association with ABC Television Studio and Amazing Race Productions.  THE Amazing Race was created by Bertram van Munster and Elise Doganieri.

  1. Do they usually renew just one cycle at a time? I was discussing with Jimmy the possibility of CBS only doing one cycle next season, though we both agreed CBS would be stupid to do that.

I think The Amazing Race would work well between runs of Survivor similar to what ABC does with The Bachelor and allow CBS to rebuild Sundays.

The Amazing Race has never been formatted abroad apart from one or two countries and I think it is to do with cost which most foreign broadcasters would never to afford plus the insurance.

Julia, Do you work for the Amazing Race?

I think The Amazing Race will be forever.

  4. David

Great news! The Amazing Race and 60 Minutes are the only shows I watch on primetime broadcast tv.

  5. Holly

Julia, they only did one cycle last season…I suppose it depends on what pilots they have.

I just hope they move it from Sundays. In terms of DVR’ing it (which is not a network priority), it always moved back due to specials. I wish they’d alternate Survivor and Amazing Race cysles on Thurs. Or move AR to Wednesday’s at 8pm.

  7. Someone

Great news this is the only reality tv show i watch :P

Personally, I wish they would only do one cycle per year. They don’t give me enough time to miss the show as it is and I’m barely paying attention this time around.

I’m glad the ratings are holding up. It was once my favorite show.

I’m in agreement about alternating cycles with Survivor. While I like both shows, they are not aging gracefully. Perhaps with less pressure on casting and production they could reboot themselves. What I would like to see in a third summer cycle is some sort of “mash up” of the two. How about some Survivor type challenges incorporated into the race and possibility of legs where contestants vote some team out?
