While it was far from a dominant win, new episodes of Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters lead ABC to the top for adults 18-49 on Sunday night. Fox's Sit Down, Shut Up won the adults 18-34 demo for its half hour, but finished third for adults 18-49 against limited competition.
NBC's Miss USA Pageant was down about 18% from last year's telecast. CBS's Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, The Courageous Heart of Irena Sandler was nearly unwatched by anyone under 50. Perhaps if the network was interested in shedding its "old folks" image it might rethink programming those specials. It's interesting that a new King of the Hill was almost entirely missed at 7:30. Perhaps viewers have become trained to repeats in that period for Fox.
You can see overnight reports for past Sundays to compare.

Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2009 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.
Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

LMAO @ Hallmark movie.
OH MAN!
Sit Down, Shut Up was soooooooooooooooooo bad, I couldn’t believe it! So, so, SO bad! I can’t see how this show survives more than 6 weeks…
Last nights Desperate Housewives was beautifull!
If the Amazing Race doesn’t get renewed for two full cycles this year (yes its got one in the bag, but unlike most reality it takes about 4 months to plan and film one cycle) I am going to hurl something at my tv. It’s the only thing on Sundays that delivers any kind of respectable demo performances.
Sit down shut up is not in the same ball-park as the other Fox animation shows. It felt like something I’d find on Adult Swim. I’m gonna give it another chance, but so far it has one strike against it, as last night’s episode was lame.
Of course most shows start off that way, so here’s hoping it gets better.
I didn’t realize the pageant earned such low ratings. It seems like everyone I knew was watching it. Celebrity Apprentice did fine though.
American Dad’s 18-34 year olds beat the Simpsons! That show is really on the rise.
For CBS that is
Given the creative team behind it I had high hopes for Sit Down Shut Up but last nights pilot was horrifically bad if those numbers don’t drop next week I’ll be amazed. I’ll be even more amazed if it gets picked up for a second season. Everything else was pretty much as you’d expect. I am however amazed that Miss America still gets broadcast on a major network…
“American Dad’s 18-34 year olds beat the Simpsons! That show is really on the rise.”
Or The Simpsons is on the decline…
Do anyone think they’ll be a third season for the celebrity apprentice?
I liked the Hallmark movie but those the numbers would have been better with a Cold Case and The Unit.
great housewives but given the month between episodes it’s too bad it did in the 13′s since the last new episode did almost 15 mil. abc is one of the worst schedulers of episodes.
yes Josh, there will definitely be a 3rd season.
I think celebrity apprentice will certainly get another season!!
Sit Down, Shut Up did poorly and was last among the Animation Block, good thing that FOX has The Cleveland Show ready. American Dad does poorly after Family Guy but the demos are good and I bet it’s already renewed as FOX wouldn’t want to piss off Seth McFarlane if they ever axed it.
Does CBS has sort of deal with Hallmark for the TV Movies because although it rates well, the demos were horrible and I think Sundays are definetly ripe for rebuilding on CBS.
Sit Down did ok I guess. About the same out of The Simpsons as King Of The Hill right? I don’t think it will hold onto those numbers though, but who knows.
Celebrity Apprentice is actually doing quite well in its 2-hr form for NBC. At least its one less trouble spot for them. I expect the 2-hr format to be here to stay a la The Biggest Loser whenever this returns next season.
i agree with tom
they need to make sure that it gets the best ratings and this season has been pretty bad ratings wise.
and i hoped that this episode would come back with a bang but it didnt
i hope it starts to get higher
Note that the Miss USA Pageant still beat most episodes of Kings.
I concur with Anonymous. Sit down, shut up was painful to watch. I won’t even give it another episode. And it did feel like a show from Adult Swim. Fox is bound to have a bad cartoon show every now and then. I don’t see it lasting more than 6 – 8 episodes.
No, ABC is THE worst when it comes to scheduling episodes. I remember Desperate Housewives went on an impromptu hiatus in it’s first season, and there was literally outrage and protests. I’m not exaggerating either, lol. This latest episode itself was good, but it would have made more sense and been more effective if they threw some of those moments into the actual episodes they belonged. I would have loved to see the scene where Edie too Lynette to the biker bar when she had cancer in the actual episode it belonged. They used this same format when the neighborhood repairman died recently
On another note, Brothers & Sisters was great last night. DH is kind of losing it’s edge in the comedy department for me, and the show right behind it is picking it up. This is the best show on television in my opinion. Great acting, a story that pulls you in, and comedy in parts
All boring crap every Sunday night —- we went out … taped nothing, cared about nothing on Sun TV ….Zzzzzzzzzzzz
