WINS THE WEEK – BEATING THE COMPETITION IN TOTAL VIEWERS, A25-54 AND HOMES
NEW YORK – April 21, 2009 – According to Nielsen Media Research data, "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" was the most-watched network evening newscast, winning the week of April 13-19, 2009. During the week, the Williams-led newscast averaged 8.434 million total viewers, +470K more than ABC "World News'" 7.964 million, and +2.491 million more than CBS "Evening News'" 5.943 million. Season-to-date "Nightly" leads ABC by 790K viewers.
"Nightly" has won for 27 consecutive weeks in total viewers, and for 21 straight weeks in A25-54. Versus the same week last season, "Nightly" increased in total viewers (+3% or +260,000).
Among the key demographic adults 25-54, "Nightly News" posted a 1.9 rating, ahead of ABC's 1.8 rating and CBS' 1.4 rating. "Nightly" led "World News" by +164,000 A25-54 viewers for the week. Season-to-date "Nightly" leads ABC by 302K A25-54 viewers. Versus the same week last season, Nightly increased +12% in rating M25-54.
In homes, "Nightly News" won with a 5.6 rating and a 12 share. In second place ABC drew a 5.4/11, and CBS posted a 4.0/8.
