It would be intresting to see stats from all torrent sites since torrentfreak have stated this is only from the “Top 10″ torrent sites and there gotta be 1000′s of sites out there…
I did more than my fair share to get Family Guy on that list.
has chuck been just barely below the top 10 in the last couple weeks? id expect to see a surge this week due to… well, ya know (cough, yvonne scantily clad, cough, cough).. but chase and bacula wernt in that episode..
So heres a question, is this ranking only of downloads of the most recent episode? or all the episodes of the show.
EG does someone illegally downloading season 1 ep 1 of house go into this list?
edit:
im stupid/blind never mind me…
Yay Chuck!… What’s wrong with them, why is it so low? Don’t they know there is a hot chick on that show?
I’m surprised the first unaired episode of Pushing Daisies that didn’t air in America isn’t on there.
in context, not many people for a planet approaching 7 billion people
LoL GO CHUCK GOOO
Does anyone know the significance of any of these numbers? I doubt pirates will ever be convinced to start watching legally, so I’m guessing nil.
There’s really no excuse for pirating these shows considering how many alternatives there are to watching the shows: if you want free, watch it on Hulu/abc.com/wherever else, then if you want downloadable and ad-free, HD episodes are only $3. People make that much money in 20 minutes of work.
Mike, we estimate a significant % of the torrent downloading happens outside the United States where quite often the episodes either don’t air locally or won’t air for a while, and are geographically blocked from Hulu, ABC, CBS, etc sites
Mike, I don’t think that they’re very important. Just interesting.
A pretty huge chunk of the peers are from countries that have not yet aired the most current seasons of these shows. Another large chunk are from people who can watch legally, but don’t have the means to properly record, or don’t have the privelage of viewing at their own convenience (Hulu and most (if not all) network sites only stream to American IP’s).
Of course, many people are also cheap.
Robert beat me to it. ;(
Actually I’m kinda glad Chuck is at the bottom of the list. I don’t think NBC executives will smile all that much knowing a lot of their viewership is illegal. The Heroes numbers must be giving a lot of executives heartburn, considering how low the ratings are right now.
I would be interested to know how many downloads are from within the US and how many are international. In other words to what extent does this represent loss of US viewers to the network or if it’s mostly people like me who can’t wait 6 months to find out how my favourite shows will end and are unable to access the legal online players such as hulu (even after the shows have aired in my country).
Heroes, Fringe, House, ARE THE ONLY SHOWS ON THAT LIST WORTH WATCHING
