I don’t know how Jimmy Fallon’s show is staying afloat, I really don’t. I checked in again a couple nights ago, and it was as painful as ever.
Fallon may have the ratings, but Ferguson has the better late late show. The opening Monday night to Fatboy Slim’s ‘Wonderful Night’ runs circles around ‘Lick it for 10′.
Jay became ill today, canceled his taping and checked himself into a hospital.
Oops forgot my linky

Man, the hard-core CHUCK fans mean business….
LOLOL
Ferguson will do well if/when he can get out from behind ‘ol gaptooth.
@InsulinJunkie: Haha, I bet it was a $5 foot-long that they used to poison him too yet
Actually the TSCC fans have gone into the future and brought back a Leno cyborg, and they’ve kidnapped the real Jay Leno and killed him and they’re putting the cyborg in his place. How else do you explain that he’s never cancelled a taping due to illness?
I really really like Jimmy Fallon’s show and obviously most of the viewers agree with me. Since his mediocre first week he has grown in confidence, he interviews really well and his show is quite unique. Craig Ferguson is just not as fresh or as funny. So to me it is no surprise.
Really looking forward to Conan taking over the Tonight Show. His ratings for that will be better than what NBC prime time shows are delivering at present.
Whenever I read something praising Fallon, why do I get the feeling it is written by a professional flack? I’ve never seen Fallon and won’t bother. I’ve got Ferguson. Why try the fettucini with reconsitituted alfredo sauce when they’re serving fresh ravioli with grated truffles?
“Fallon may have the ratings, but Ferguson has the better late late show…”
When I read this statement the first thing I thought was, “Yep but there are alot of viewers who still are watching Fallon’s and Kimmel’s show. They aren’t switching over to Ferguson. At the risk of stating the obvious, ratings are the number of people who watched the show sorted by age group. Seriously. I get that the Ferguson fan is loyal but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t a large number of fans who are just as entertained by the Jimmy’s. Both Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel have the ratings. Jimmy Fallon’s ratings seem to be at Conan levels. While Ferguson bested Connan’s numbers on a handful, yep I said a handful, of nights, he was never able to consistantly take over the time slot. Now is the time when Craig Ferguson should be mopping the floor with Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel in the ratings.
He isn’t.
Now the question is,”Why?”
The numbers are breaking in Fallon’s favor. The best thing for Fallon to do is relax and look at the numbers. Take heart with the reality of the ratings. Do like Craig Ferguson did when faced with bad reviews and just have faith. Use the time to experiment to find his own niche. Jimmy Kimmel had already found his “voice” on the ManShow. Again folks seem to forget that Craig Ferguson’s first year and the reaction by the critics was just horrid. Maybe we could talk about the old reviews from Mr. Ferguson’s first shows over a cuppa tea and a chat? I seem to remember that the “cuppa tea” bit was one of the skits that Mr. Ferguson tried but discarded.
Oh and I’m not a “professional flack” I’m a Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson watcher since the beginning.
I’m just pragmatic, no fangurl or fanboi here, and I’m wondering why Mr. Ferguson isn’t doing better in the ratings. It’s a question I hope that the Ferguson staff are asking themselves at every staff meeting.
Ya’ll seem to be expert at this. Why isn’t Ferguson doing better?
This next bit of information from the above post sure made me pay attention, especially considering the revamping of Carson Daily’s show.
“…At 1:35 a.m. ET for the week, “Last Call with Carson Daly” finished within a tenth of a rating point of ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in 18-49 and tied both Kimmel and Ferguson in adult 18-34 rating (with a 0.4 rating each). “Last Call” also ties Kimmel and Ferguson in 18-34 for the season to date (0.4 each)… ”
Yup. I’ve watched a few of these new shows from Carson Daily. It’s interesting to watch him get out of the studio and into the clubs in LA or on the road. Isn’t this the style that brought Carson Daily to national attention to begin with.
Carson Daily. His show is on in the middle of the night. But his new format is catching viewers. Viewers who make ratings numbers. Viewer who are not watching Jimmy Kimmel or Craig Ferguson.
I’m no expert, just a Ferguson fan. And I don’t understand a lot of what goes on in Late Night. Leno over Letterman?! C’mon. Even the people who run NBC can’t figure that one out. They thought Leno would be OVER in 2009.
Anyway, Ferguson’s show is shot in a tiny studio, with no production money and no band. It’s not in hi-def. He doesn’t have the money to get out and about in LA. CBS spends next to nothing on the show.
Could these things be a factor in people’s viewing decisions?
If CBS were EVER going to spend some money on Ferguson’s show, NOW would be the time.
It’s all about who is on prior to their shows. They depend alot on their lead in audience. I found it interesting that when Leno’s people announced last Thursday that it was going to be a rerun, the show that won the ratings at that time slot was Nightline which I think was a first because they never beat Leno. And who won the ratings for the show that comes after that? Kimmel. (per futoncritic website.) Letterman always comes in second in ratings after Leno and so therefore Ferguson will always come in second or third position. When Conan arrives, he will sustain Fallon’s ratings and keep him afloat and will come in first before Ferguson. It’s their lead in audience that they depend on.
Personally, Ferguson makes me laugh and I will stick with him.
I dont find fallon funny at all…He’s not god at interviews and his segments are awful
“Anyway, Ferguson’s show is shot in a tiny studio, with no production money and no band. It’s not in hi-def. He doesn’t have the money to get out and about in LA. CBS spends next to nothing on the show.”
Not sure about the expense of Carson’s show on the road. I can’t imagine it to be bigger than Mr. Ferguson’s studio shows. Anyone know? I know that Carson Daily didn’t bring his band with him on the remotes. And he only interviewed one group or individual singer. It was more of a documentary style of interview. Do you pay the tallent more or less when it’s just them. Alot of the footage and interviews were taped at LA clubs in rather cramped quarters. The acts aren’t really well known and neither was the tatoo place or the road trip in Florida.
Did you see it?
“Could these things be a factor in people’s viewing decisions?”
Not if it’s just, as some Ferguson fan’s are saying, only about the funny. Don’t all the talk shows pay scale? And I’m not sure I’d blame David Letterman. After all David Letterman got LLS with Craig Ferguson back on the air during the strike. If it weren’t for Letterman’s hire? Craig Ferguson would still be “…that guy who played Mr. Wick on The Drew Carey Show”. Just saying.
Look I’m not bashing anyone. I’m just asking, “If Fallon is so bad? How come his numbers are increasing?” It’s TV by the Numbers so that is a fair question to take the ratings seriously or debunk them if you think that they are misleading.
Fallon’s numbers are hardly increasing. There is a definite downward trend since his debut.
See, Chic Doodles, here’s the problem. (from above)
“…Since his March 2 debut, Jimmy Fallon has finished #1 in the time period on 35 of 35 nights in adult 18-49 rating, including one tie …”
I never thought I write this — but — if Jimmy Fallon were as bad you folks are saying? NBC’d have to change the name of his show from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to The Titanic with Captain Jimmy.
He wouldn’t be number one in his time period 35 out of 35 weeks.
But you know maybe this will change with the new week’s numbers.
We’ll see.
Guess not.
