Saturday's 3 hours of prime-time are getting more dumping traffic than an overused landfill. Latest, and no surprise, to make the move is Harper's Island.

"HARPER'S ISLAND" MOVES TO SATURDAY, 9:00 PM, BEGINNING MAY 2

7-Day DVR Results Show Significant Audience Increases Among Young Adult Viewers

Online Streaming Also Shows Strong Viewer Engagement

HARPER'S ISLAND, the Network's 13-week mystery event, will move to Saturday effective May 2 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) forming a two-hour block of original programming with 48 Hours Mystery (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

The move to Saturday comes on the heels of the first extended DVR playback data for the HARPER'S ISLAND premiere on April 9, as well as strong online viewer engagement.

"The preliminary DVR and online streaming data suggest a passionate audience for HARPER'S outside its current Thursday time period borders," said Kelly Kahl, Senior Executive Vice President Prime Time, CBS Television.  "This move gives us an opportunity to improve the time period on Thursday while experimenting with more original programming on Saturday, and continuing to serve an audience that is clearly engaged in the ongoing HARPER'S ISLAND story."

According to Nielsen live plus 7-day playback results versus live, the HARPER'S ISLAND premiere audience increased by +29% in adults 18-49 (3.1 from 2.4), +33% in adults 18-34 (2.0 from 1.5), +25% in adults 25-54 (4.0 from 3.2) and gained +1.64 million viewers (11.29m from 9.65m).

The premiere of HARPER'S ISLAND was also CBS.com's biggest online premiere ever, delivering more video streams (combined clips and episodes) than any previous show launch for the CBS Audience Network, and continues to be the fastest growing series in CBS.com's history.

And here is CBS's follow on press release about their schedule updates and season finales.

CBS sucks Harper’s Island is the most addicting show for me right now cant wait to find out who dies each episode / who the killer is

  2. When does Flashpoint end? I wonder if it would make more sense to air it there.

  3. djm

ouch, HI got the “kings” treatment
    =p

  4. Lourdes

On come on! They should put EH repeats instead. Again CBS and its bad decisions.

  5. cool

Yes, because 48 Hour Mistery is a hit and will do better.

  6. the128boy

If CBS is toying with putting something post CSI, as many speculate, why not take this an opportunity?

I doubt 48 Hours Mystery will do stellar numbers anyway… wouldn’t NCIS/Criminal Minds/Mentalist repeats score almost as good? If not much better?

CBS is not in the habit of making dumb decisions, but this strikes me as NBC-schedule-stupidity.

  7. Kellie

I agree with Lourdes. I know many people who are looking to see Eleventh Hour episodes somewhere. Many saw the finale and want to see the whole season. Come on, CBS, give this show and its fans a chance!

Also, check out the ELEVENTH HOUR RENEWAL CAMPAIGN going on. It is for all those fans who would like to help out and bring the show back in the fall.

  8. Yeah ok. 48 Hours mystery’s gonna do muuuuch better than HI. /sarcasm.

Are you kidding? I’m all for pulling/moving HI if you need to but you’re gonna replace it with a show that’s gonna be watched by less people?

It’s not like it’s cheaper so thats why the pulled it. All the episodes of HI have been paid for and made already. So why waste those dollars on Saturday?

  9. Mike

According to Variety it’s not going to be 48 Hours airing after CSI, it’s Criminal Minds(repeat), CSI(repeat) and the season finale of CSI: NY.

  10. Mike

CBS.com also has the schedule I just posted.

  11. TVBill

Yeah, THR got it wrong. 48 Hours Mystery is on Saturday, after Harper’s Island. This Thursday is a Criminal Minds repeat at 10pm, according to a CBS press release….

  12. Weird that they would air the CSI:NY finale out of timeslot.

  13. Mike

Because of Obama this week, CBS didn’t have enough Wednesday timeslots to air all of their shows since Criminal Minds is having a 2 hour finale. So moving NY to Thursday allows them to air everything.

  14. Alex

I’m tempted to agree with 128 here, if they’re playing around with putting something like The Mentalist or Criminal Minds on after CSI next year why not just try a repeat or even an original episode in the slot now? I’m not sure what they’ve really got to lose from trying it out at this point it would at least give them a more informed guess on how things are panning out. Or maybe bump CSI up to 10 and slot an original Mentalist in at 9 and see how The Mentalist holds up against Grey’s? Although that’s probably asking a lot at this stage.

It does however seem weird that they’d stick 48 Hours Mystery on after CSI.

  15. Visan

    Not shocked….

  16. I replaced the THR story with the CBS press releases.

  17. Weird, I did not think that CBS would consider its numbers bad enough for a Saturday exile.

  18. Jon

It will be interesting how CSI:NY does with CSI as its lead in, while CSI has been declining it is still a stronger lead in compared to Criminal Minds and should give a small boost to NY.

  19. Christopher

    i think it might work

  20. Christopher

CSI and CSI NY might work well
