After I called talk of Privileged's renewal fantasy last week, Michael Ausiello of EW.com casts for the linkbait (and gets it!) with his own post stoking the fires of fan desperation. I wonder if Michael would like to make a wager on Privileged renewal?

Probably not. ;)

A source close to the show confirms that the network has decided to run repeats of the cult fave on Fridays at 8 pm/ET throughout the summer. Why would The CW waste an hour of its schedule on a show that had no future? It's simple: They most likely probably wouldn't.

Ummm…isn’t the CW ALREADY wasting an hour of scheduling on Jericho? I think we all know THAT show’s not coming back…so the fact that they’re going to air Priveleged repeats doesn’t really mean anything.

  2. Kevin

I think it certainly meana something Jenna. If they wanted ratings they could have just randomly re-aired Top Model, Gossip Girl, Smallville or one of the shows the network likes in that slot. The fact that they’re re-airing Privileged episodes means internally that people like the show. It may not be enough to renew it, most likely it isn’t, but this should be taken as a bit of good news for fans of the show.

  3. I don’t think it is 100% sure Privileged won’t come back. I mean, we’re talking about Dawn. She loves that kind of shows because of the demo. I would prefer Reaper coming back than Privileged.

I’m not saying that it won’t mean anything to fans, or even that Priveleged WON’T come back…I was just referring to Ausiello saying “Why would The CW waste an hour of its schedule on a show that had no future? It’s simple: They most likely probably wouldn’t.”. All I was saying was that Jericho clearly “has no future” yet they air reruns of it on the CW. I’m just saying that ALONE doesn’t mean anything (in terms of it’s chances to be renewed).

There’s so many jokes about how many hours of their schedule The CW are wasting I’m not sure where to begin…

  6. Alex

On another note – ‘they most likely probably wouldn’t’ is a horrible sentence. Who the hell says most likely probably wouldn’t? I get he wants to hedge his bets but that’s just a poor way to do it.

  7. Jenna

HAHAHA I know!? “Most likely probably wouldn’t!?” Come on Ausiello…

  8. dwalker

this is crazy there’s no way that priviledged is coming back if it does thats just bad news for the cw

  9. Heradite

Didn’t the CW spend half-an-hour each summer airing Aliens in America repeats?

  10. Dan

Thats a waste just rerun Everybody Hates Chris and The Game, or Reaper. Don’t waste time on Privileged. And Heradite, yes The CW did air Aliens in America repeats at 8:30 but that was a sitcom, and they did the same thing with All of Us. Usually when a comedy is axed but others arent repeats of the comedy are still on the schedule throughout the summer. But the main difference was Aliens ended in May, Privileged has been off the air since February and unless The CW was planning to renew it I don’t see why theyd rerun it. If Chris and Reaper are axed then there wont be a reason for me to watch The CW.

  11. Nick C

They have no plans for comedy shows next fall. They’re testing PRIVILEGED on Friday to see if it can do better than the comedies.

  12. Nick, but if they aren’t planning on testing this until the summer, does that mean Privileged is actually going to be renewed?

  13. so they are looking to see whether repeats of Privileged will perform better than repeats of EHC/The Game?

  14. Nick C

Julia/Robert, it’s similar to the JERICHO repeats. It’s for the producers. They’re basically saying “if the show does well here, we’ll renew,” when there is no chance in hell the show will do well.

  15. Joseph

I think privileged will be back at least for 13 episodes, i meant.. we are talking about CW!

  16. Blue Sunflower

Why the hell not air Reaper instead? At least Reaper will actually hold an audience.

  17. Stephen

I normally like reading Ausiello but this bugs me. I have never even seen the show but don’t get fans hopes up for no reason. Just because they are running it summer doesn’t mean they are making new eps. That is a huge leap of faith and it just builds up fans hopes falsely.

cw renewed 90210 which its audiencw is right now only 2 millions viewes .why it cant renew privileged which season averaged is 1,90??only 10.000 is the difference between the two shows[always with the numbers that 90210 doing the last 4 episodes]

I don’t know what Ausiello’s betting habits are, but I wouldn’t bet against him. Over the years, he has shown to have an uncanny knack of being right more times than not. From what I have been able to discern, there is not all that much on CW’s development plate. Consequently, repeats throughout the summer may be a way to try and boost viewership for the return in the fall… guess we’ll all find out what’s
what relatively soon, one way or the other.
