FOX took the 18-49 demo for the night with House and 24, trailed closely in that demo by CBS' comedies and CSI: Miami combo.  FOX also grabbed victory with adults 18-34.  ABC had the most overall viewers fueled by Dancing with the Stars.

The season finale of Chuck scored a 2.3 rating with adults 18-49 and 6.11 million viewers overall.   The season finale of Heroes pulled a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating and 6.39 million viewers.    Meanwhile, ABC's Castle averaged a 2.1 rating with adults 18-49.

I know fans are wondering about the fate of Castle.  It was off .1 with adults 18-49 vs. last week when it faced a repeat of The Mentalist instead of a new CSI: Miami.  The good news is, it seems to have stabilized, but I'm not sure if stabilizing at a 2.1 is good news.  The bad news is it lost viewers in its second half hour.  But then again, so did 24.

I'll post the full show data table shortly...  Update: Now included (see below)

Note: in the hopes that our server will still be serving for more than two minutes after I post this message, I am initially closing the comments on this post.   Thanks for your patience.

Though it feels somewhat like the thought of jumping out of a plane without a parachute, I have enabled the comments...

Previous Monday overnight reports are available for comparison.

Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2009 The Nielsen Company.

Definitions:

Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.

Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.

Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)

Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

  1. Heroes>Chuck

down with chuck, heroes #1 baby!!!!

  2. Jeffster!

  3. Argus

Chuck’s ratings went down??? Nooooooooooo…. Is there any hope for it now?

  4. Clay

“I liked Heroes better the first time around, when it was called X men origins”.

I love that comment, So true.

  5. Nick C

Those GOSSIP GIRL numbers sure are high.

CHUCK btw is not renewed or canceled. Yet.

  6. tim

im calling that castle lives. ABC is desperate for a cop show, and they need to keep 1 new show. Castle is stabalizing, and i think 8.4 million viewers with a 2.1 demo is worth a 13 episode second look.

  7. lopan

I thought Chuck would have some big clifhanger but I would be okay if that was the last episode.

  8. Clay

Chuck’s rating did not go down, they stayed the same.

  9. Nick C

Argus, they stayed the same, but actually slightly better I think than last week. It may hit a 2.4 or even a 2.5 in finals.

  10. Argus, they didn’t go down, they stayed the same as last week’s (and the week before, for that matter) preliminary numbers.

  11. Jay Leno

i spoke with ben, he’s says chuck is too expensive to bring back

  12. P@

And thus begins the longest. week. ever. for fans of Chuck.

  13. Victor

    Jeffster rules!

  14. Jennifer

Tim I hope you’re right about Castle. The show is getting better every week. I think ABC needs to keep it around for a second season.

  15. Tony

Hopefully this will put a nail in Chuck’s coffin. So long Chuck, don’t let the doors hit you on your way out.

  16. me

    more chuck i say.

  17. It went up to 2.4 in the finals last week.

  18. Sam B

Haha, “Jay Leno” trying to stir up the pot =)

  19. Heather

Well, at least Chuck stayed stable, so I won’t be freaking out anymore than I already have been. But like someone already said, this is gonna be the longest week ever.

And good idea closing the comments at first – it was nice to be able to see the ratings right away!

‘Heroes>Chuck’ (April 28th, 2009 at 9:59 am) is a coward. “Heroes” is a tired show, to boot, but this clown wouldn’t recognize that.
