A (new?) novel PR strategy by CBS to define their competition as networks that broadcast until 11pm.

"CSI: NY" Sweeps Time Period with Across-the-Board Increases From Last Original Episode
CBS placed first in viewers and key demographics among the three networks broadcasting from 9:00-11:00 PM, according to Nielsen preliminary ratings for Wednesday, April 29.
Editors Note: CBS, NBC and ABC broadcast the Presidential news conference from 8:00-9:00 PM. Ratings for the news conference are sustained and not included in the nightly average for these networks.
At 9:00 PM, Criminal Minds was second in households (8.4/13) and viewers (13.27m) and averaged 4.2/10 in adults 25-54 and 3.3/08 in adults 18-49.
At 10:00 PM, CSI: NY was first in households (8.1/14), viewers (12.47m), adults 25-54 (4.1/10) and adults 18-49 (3.2/09). Compared to the last first-run episode (on April 15, 2009), CSI: NY was up +4% in households (from 7.8/13), +8% in adults 25-54 (from 3.8/10), +10% in adults 18-49 (from 2.9/08) and added +330,000 viewers (from 12.14m, +3%).

LOL, and I thought ABC PR were pathetics
I think this is just since the 8:00 hour is the press conference only the 9 and 10 hours will count for the ratings. So basically they’re saying “in the hours when CBS was competing in the ratings….”
Every once in a while, it would be interesting to see segregated comparisons of the full primetime broadcasters (ABC, CBS, NBC, UNI, ION) from the mini-net limited primetime broadcasters (FOX, CW, MNT).
I expect to see CBS and ABC begin focusing more attention on how they’re doing in the 10-11 pm hour as both are expecting to see improved numbers in this hour once ‘The Jay Leno Show’ arrives this fall.
Dumont, it’s fairly easy to do on a weekly basis for aggregate primetime and weighting based on 2 or 3 hours, but ION and MNT not being in the overnights make it hard for individual nights. 10pm is going to get some special attention next year.
Holly, because there was no advertising with the press conference it will be stricken (“sustained” in Nielsen lingo) from the weekly results anyway.
