TV Week's Josef Adalian reports that CBS and ABC Studios are still negotiating the licensing fees for Ghost Whisperer and any number of ideas are thrown into the speculative mix.
The article notes that ABC would be the most likely to pick it up in the event that CBS didn't, but I don't see it. The show works at 8pm on Fridays, but I think ABC Broadcasting likes its lot of unscripted programming on Friday nights and I would be very surprised if it didn't continue next year. ABC Broadcasting probably would balk at the licensing fees for the program even more than CBS!
The most likely scenario seems like this is just negotiating, and that CBS will pick the show up. Adalian reports NBC would be the least likely to pick it up, but also offered up this (Rampant speculation alert!)
NBC has already indicated that it's unlikely to make a serious play for "Ghost." Some executives at Fox are intrigued by the idea of buying "Ghost" -- and possibly pairing it with a second season of Joss Whedon's "Dollhouse" -- but it seems unlikely a deal would be done.
It's unlikely that ABC would pick it up. But the above scenario? That seems way beyond unlikely. In that context it's like saying "but it seems unlikely that I would grow a foot overnight and be signed by an NBA franchise."
So yes, it does seem....unlikely.

Ghost Whisperer is definitely back for CBS. I dont understand why anyone would think anything else like FOX picking it up and renewing Dollhouse.
How would having three feet help you with the NBA?
Is it my imagination or is there a lot more posturing going on by networks and studios this year than most years?
haha. if nothing else, I think I would get away with a little extra on any traveling violations
Julia, last year I do remember that sort of thing with a couple of the 30 minute sitcoms. This year it seems like a lot more. But it’s anecdotal and I could be imagining it. Or it could be the economy, etc.
Excellent comeback!
lol
Too good to be true.
It it were to make its way on ABC, I doubt they’d be looking to use it on Friday. It’s female skew could work with some of the other nights on their schedule.
come on Keep it on Fridays its a good night for it
well, now nobody can say you “hate” dollhouse and “never give it any attention”
frankly some heads should roll is CBS dosent renew GW.(not that I like the show, I dont watch it, but it gets decent ratings for a Friday night and tops it’s time frame consistently)
If nothing else, that’s Fox’s way of admitting that Dollhouse has been paired with some pretty weak shows.
Ghost Whisperer would work quite with Medium if NBC ever dropped it and CBS picked it up. I think ABC Studios are playing hardball with CBS to wring some money out of them but I think it’s safe to say that GW will be back.
I’m not suggesting it would be as bad a pairing as, say, Prison Break, but what audience overlap is there between the two shows? One’s science fiction, the other’s a supernatural show. I know the Syphilis channel shows supernatural stuff too, but they’re not trying to attract a science fiction audience.
Money. Money. Money. Greedy TV bastards, hehe.
It’s all speculation though, no one knows exactly how it’s going to perform on another night other than Friday, and on another network besides CBS. Although I do think people underestimate the show a little bit and they never gave it a chance, I watch it, and I see a Sunday or Tuesday night show, the quality is right up there, but that’s just my opinion, hopefully nobody attacks me for no reason like commentors like to do on this website…
Also nobody knows really how it will perform, because since it’s debut, it has never changed network, night, or time, it’s been on at CBS Fridays at 8pm every seasonal week for 4 years, I think it has a big draw for the 18-49 crowd if it goes on ABC on Friday or even Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, I think Jennifer Love Hewitt has huge appeal across the age brackets, and across both male and female demos, I think girls like her cause she’s down to earth and not a big slut, and boys of all ages like her because she’s down to earth and of course for her big boobs and because boys are horny all the time, and David Conrad is HOT too and is a big reason why women watch, so it’s a winner all around for any network in my opinion, but that’s just my humble opinion, hopefully no one attacks or insults me for it…
i watch it to and i will be happy where ever it goes i think Sundays at 8 would be good
Since it has a strong female audience also, it works perfectly on Sundays right after Desperate Housewives.
But that’s B.S. I don’t think CBS will give up this show since it’s an anchor on their Friday nights, what’s 1.5 million dollars more per episode for a multi conglomerate corp like CBS, also, another scenario, they’ll just have to downsize the cost of production for the show or take a chance and move it to another night where it could do better in the 18-49 demo (which i think it will, it’s ridiculous for people to think that only old people will watch this show or that only old people watch this show, or that only women watch this show) and demand a heftier price tag from advertisers
It all boils down to people at the TV networks and how they view the show, I also think it has to do with people’s beliefs and skepticism about the show’s subject matter. Strongly traditional Christians in America have a strong disbelief in anything that has to do with the supernatural, the most conservative religious groups especially, and I think that’s why everybody has already biased opinions on this show before they even watch it, it’s all based on how someone was raised.
Well, I love Ghost and have watched it since the beginning…AND I am Christian and older (old) depends on one’s view. I will follow it wherever they put it but I do like it on Friday night…
