another thing… y r people comparing medium and castle? they r on two diofferent networks in two complete different positions,

Medium: NBC, less timeslots availible, a veteran show, holds its own

Castle: ABC, good amount of timeslots, a new show trying to hang on, probably still needs a lead in.

BOTH: In the end, i think both of them end up renewed, so people dont need to argue about it.

I would LOVE to see how ‘Castle’ does w/o a lead in like DWTS. Look at ‘Samantha Who?’. It is a flop when it is not after DWTS. ‘Castle’ may be in the same boat. Plus, we all know that ABC cheats and has DWTS run over aminure or two, helping the next show’s ratings…

@ Christy0405 – how can you say OTH is dead? It’s consistently on par with the CW’s “hit show” Gossip Girl and occasionally does better. It is also the CW’s 4th (Not so sure about this) rated show, after Supernatural, Smallville and America’s Next Top Model.

Why should the CW cancel it? As the saying goes: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

I’m glad Castle went up this week. I’m not going to read too much into that at this point because a one week jump out of Dancing doesn’t mean all that much, unless ABC is really desperate. We’ll see what it does next week.

Elsewhere, holy crap at CSI: Miami, is that 4.0 right? If so it pulled stronger numbers at 10 this week than CSI did at 9 for the past few weeks. Was that the season finale or something? It seems incredibly high. And Two and Half Men’s 5.0 is pretty damn impressive as well.

Meanwhile House is a full point ahead of everything else in the 18-34, which is always nice to see!

As far as Medium goes, I watch the show every week it is on and have done so since it first aired. But on Monday even I forgot the show was airing for 2 hours and starting at 9. I was totally confused when my tivo turned to channel 4 at 9pm. If I didnt have my Tivo set to record it, or didnt have a tivo, I would not have remembered it was on and only turned it on at 10. I think this is probably what happened to most people on Monday, they just had no idea it was also airing at 9pm. But it regained its regular audience at its regular time.

Waiting impatiently for news of a Castle renewal.
Nathan Fillion & Stana Katic are outstanding along with great supporting cast as well as great Writers.
It makes “The Mentalist” boring in comparison.
The Mentalist is definitely in need of better Writers along with a better co-star for Simon Baker instead of dreary Robin Tunney.

no.. medium and ghost whisperer would drag each other down and both wind up canceled.
Heroes>Medium where it counts, in the demos. advertisers couldnt care less about total viewers.
and mwa, medium got about as much promotion as heroes does, they are both minuscule, but heroes still beats…

I feel like you can say “it’s doing well despite poor treatment by NBC” for any show on NBC that gets numbers above the network’s average. The network is such a joke and does such a terrible job promoting all of their shows that a 2.3 or higher is basically only earned because of a show’s fan base/quality.

Well, I guess you can’t include the Thursday comedy block in that, because I see tons of ads for those shows. Maybe I’m just being cynical about NBC, but I feel like Chuck and Medium would both have much better numbers either on a different night or with better promotion. But that’ll never happen, so I feel like the “Chuck vs. Medium” discussions are going to be going on constantly until one or both of them is canceled.

How well do you expect a show to do when the network does little advertising for a program being shown at an earlier time than usual?

It more than made up for it for the total night.

‘Medium’ could work next year Sundays, Mondays, and as scary as this sounds to NBC I am sure as they do not want scripted shows on the night, Friday at 9. The Ghost Whisperer audience would just hop over to NBC at 9.

Not if you spend much less money to advertise that show versus the other show that has a slightly higher number in the demos and lower in overall viewers. Youa re still losing with ‘Heroes’, which should have been the show to get the boot. The msot costly thing about ‘Medium’ is Patricia Arquette’s salary, which she earns every penny of, versus the lame special effects on ‘Heroes’.

Didn’t Heroes air before it almost the whole season? Didn’t Heroes have better ratings every single time?

NO. ‘Medium’ had higher ratings thasn ‘Heroes’ every week, by at least 1 million total viewers.

‘Medium’ has never had a strong elad in from the day it premiered in January 2005. It has had ‘Fear Factor’, “The Biggest Loser”, ‘Deal or No Deal’, and then ‘Heroes’ after ‘Heroes’ last its viewers.

Believe me, ‘Medium’ has not had the luck of any ABC show that follows ‘Dancing with the Stars’, and has always been up against powerhouse shows since day I (CSI Miama, Lost). NBC has certainly not done the show any favors from when it premiered.

‘Medium’ has done very, very well considering the poor treatment by NBC. People have to admit that.

Medium’s numbers at 10 were fine, slightly above season averages, something not many NBC shows are doing currently. But the 9PM numbers are not so hot, is this an anomoly or is is something for NBC to be worried about considering how many 10PM shows they are planning to move.

I didn’t like Castle much, because its very formulaic, and I think the sexual chemistry of the female lead is kind of wasted, or was on the shows I saw. (That’s just personal taste.) Saying that, I tend to agree with Julia and Holly aka Audrey Hepburn that Castle is still on the bubble, technically. Why? What do they do with it in the fall schedule? Where does it fit in if not after Dancing, which gave it the little surge? Dancing premiers if I remember correctly late in the fall, so it may be there a while – but with only 2.8, will they, as executives often are, be tempted to move it, thinking they can do better with a ” hotter “, ie, more heavily hyped new show? Also, don’t watch Medium but unlike cop shows and the Cougar, which is the most stupid show on TV or one of them, I don’t wish it ill. I sort of hope NBC keeps it because at least the occult is different than cop shows and talent contests and disgusting “dating” BS.

One of the biggest advantages that Castle has is that new fans can join it for any episode without feeling lost. So a second season launch is really simple. It will depend how it does next week, I think, but if it can hold above 2.2 in the Spring, it’s probably a much safer bet than a new show for the Fall. We’ll see.

Thanks for the data. I want to see Castle renewed and I think for shows on the bubble with regard to the 18-49 numbers, it can make a difference if the show is second in the timeslot vs last. I’m glad to see the win over Medium being touted in ABC’s press release. A good sign for the show.

Medium did not crumble, and you can’t compare it to Chuck at 8 because it wasn’t even on at 8 and Chuck does not air at 9!

I would say Medium built on itself because it is not typivally on at 9….plus NBC didn’t exactly do w whole lot to advertise it as usual….

I think we will also see higher ratings as it will be on through June 01, 2009, longer than all of your other shows, including Castle. Castle’s season finale is next week.

That means 4 more weeks of ‘Medium’.

Wow. You would think NBC would be promoting the hell out of it.

Hey things are looking up this week. Castle going up, Chuck renewal looking more possible and these are the only two shows I watch regularly. I watch House in syndication and when Chucks not on and Bones or Lie To Me here and there. Dances, Survivor, Idol and well any other reality show other than “Dirty Jobs”(Mike Rowe is da man) just bore or annoy me.

Just further proof that HOWIE MANDEL CAN’T PUT ASSES IN THE SEATS! Between him and Leno, that’s 7 hours of airtime taken away from NBC. Ridiculous. Rules of Engagments numbers are really good this week. I can’t remember off the top of my head if the ratings have been that high before.
