I get the point. But Fringe is doing fine against The Mentalist and Biggest Loser (except for the finale) and apparently Dancing With The Stars. On Monday nights it might also have to contend with sports programming at times despite being on at 9PM (if it is in season 2), especially sports on other networks which might incline viewers not to switch over at 9.

What it needs not to lose viewers in the second half hour is the overrun of AI to stop. Its second half hour is fine otherwise.

In season 2 Fringe will do one of two things – either lose viewers due to the increased complexity of the mythology or gain viewers because of Leonard Nimoy and an expanded mythology and serialization. It all hinges on how Abrams does his job.

Like TSCC would have likely been a hit given its name recognition on Mondays in season two had it not been for Friedman’s idiocy, Fringe stands a very good chance of improving its ratings in season two – provided the first couple of episodes are very well done and merit buzz as a result.

Bottom line: don’t worry about the show until it merits worry.

“Thought “Reaper” was dead?

Well, think again. Like some of the undead creatures on it, the quirky CW dramedy with a rabid fan base is refusing to die.

Sources said show producer ABC Studios is in talks with CW affiliate stations about continuing “Reaper” as a syndicated series for Sunday night.

The law-rated “Reaper” has been pretty much canceled at the CW. But most stations are said to love the series starring Brett Harrison as the Devil’s bounty hunter.”

All Reaper fans should e-mail their local CW affiliates to let them know you want another saeson!

I don’t know if I buy this logic.

In reality there’s nothing to stop CBS moving Cold Case into the Without A Trace slot next season if that’s what they want to do so I’m not sure this argument really pans out.

As for the ratings, not sure why they dont screen out Idol from the first half hour – they could adjust them based on the previous weeks data automatically. Ratings for 2nd half hour arent spectacular but the demo is still good and moving to Canada will reduce costs. If HEROES can stay on the air with lower ratings, surely FRINGE can – providing ratings stabilize and dont go down.

Still amazed so many people think watching fat people lose weight and sing is entertaining – a good indication of the declining intelligence level of the viewing public.

I am slightly amazed at the success of The Mentalist in the US. Personally I think it’s an OK show but not a “can’t miss.”

After a flying start at 3.6m in the UK when it became Five’s top show displacing CSI it has fallen away steadily and last week only just hit 2.0m.

Despite being up against a major European football match featuring a British team on one of the main Channels last week CSI pulled in a creditable 2.6m which was 30% more than The Mentalist.

This week CSI was back up to 3.0m which is a good figure for our fith biggest channel and is easily Five’s top show.

I firmly believe that WAT will stay put with Leno arriving in fall. At the least, it’s chances have to be better than Cold Case, whose timeslot will not benefit from Leno-competition this fall.

The Fringe finale was excellent. Among other things, it relieved my concerns that Abrams would do something ridiculous about the “other dimension”. It turns out the other dimension is exactly the same as ours – except where it differs!

I suspect next season Fringe will be dealing with duplicate persons from the other dimension. Clearly Peter is from there, as his tombstone makes clear. And the question now is, WHICH William Bell is Oliva talking to? Ours – or theirs? And what happens when the OTHER Walter Bishop wants HIS son back?

If you thought Lost was complicated, I suspect Abrams is just getting started with Fringe. I just hope that doesn’t alienate the viewers. I think he probably won’t go overboard on that, though. He knows Lost has its problems with that issue and he explicitly said he wants to walk a more balanced path with Fringe.

Only thing I didn’t like about the finale was offing David Robert Jones -he was a cool villain. But presumably Abrams has better ones in the wings.

Also, nice to see good numbers for Fringe.

What amazes me about Tuesdays is how many people actually watch the networks. It is probably one of the reasons restaurants give discounts on Tuesdays in my town.
