TSCC season 2 was not better then season 1 in fact it was dramatically worse which is why you saw the show fall apart as pretty much almost the entire first half of season 2 was in the toilet. If they do the same with Fringe it will be a disaster that will result in the show being canceled.

TSCC, while it had some bad episodes, was a marked improvement over the 1st season. In fact, the 2nd season became more intellectual. Same thing might happen with Fringe. 9 million viewers is nothing to cry about for Fox. In fact, most Fox shows do a lot worse, but do better in the 18-49 demo. Anyway, I apologize for writing 6 consecutive times. I didn't intend on doing that. It's just that after each post, there would be something that hadn't occurred to me. I'm sorry for that.

That would be six times.

I get the point. But Fringe is doing fine against The Mentalist and Biggest Loser (except for the finale) and apparently Dancing With The Stars. On Monday nights it might also have to contend with sports programming at times despite being on at 9PM (if it is in season 2), especially sports on other networks which might incline viewers not to switch over at 9.

What it needs not to lose viewers in the second half hour is the overrun of AI to stop. Its second half hour is fine otherwise.

In season 2 Fringe will do one of two things - either lose viewers due to the increased complexity of the mythology or gain viewers because of Leonard Nimoy and an expanded mythology and serialization. It all hinges on how Abrams does his job.

Like TSCC would have likely been a hit given its name recognition on Mondays in season two had it not been for Friedman's idiocy, Fringe stands a very good chance of improving its ratings in season two - provided the first couple of episodes are very well done and merit buzz as a result.

Bottom line: don't worry about the show until it merits worry.

It would take you stop analyzing Fringe's ratings and posting three consecutive times.

Hell's Kitchen would not have done as good as it did, if it had to compete against CBS Dramas

Comparing Fringe ratings this year to Hell's Kitchen in the same timeslot last year is a mistake only because there was very little competition thanks to the Writers Strike. It would not do as well if it had to compete against CBS.

On Tuesdays, Fringe competes against The Mentalist and The Biggest Loser in addition to Dancing With The Stars. On Monday, it's main competition would just be Dancing With The Stars. That's my point.

I didn't say that competing Dancing With The Stars would be easy. What I meant was that since CBS doesn't have dramas on Mondays, Fringe competing at 9 pm might be better than competing against The Mentalist on Tuesday. 24 does well because it has House as its lead-in and if they did the same thing with Fringe, it just might get a similar result in the 1849 demo.

Dancing With The Stars is not easy competition. Fringe might suffer. It would do better than TSCC did, but would likely still suffer. I don't think that's a good idea.

I'll say it again, they need to move Fringe to Monday night, where it's only main competition is Dancing With The Stars. Fringe would beat Heroes in the ratings.

If "AI" recorded 88 million votes ...that means every person watching would call 4 times...but almost everyone I know didn't call...I think more than 23 million people that watch "AI"...Hmmm maybe it 22 million TV sets with 55 million viewers...?!? And these little kids that call in can't stay up on a school night dialing for 2 hours...these numbers just don't add up...

Thank goodness Fringe does have its core audience. It's reminds me of the early days of Alias and the early days X Files. In other words, ratings not great, but good enough to keep it on the air. 24 got pretty much the same total viewers after American Idol as Fringe has. 2ndly, Fringe episode was mind blowing. Especially that scene with the WTC towers and revelation that Peter died many years ago.

Important news from Hollywood Reporter about Reaper:

"Thought "Reaper" was dead?

Well, think again. Like some of the undead creatures on it, the quirky CW dramedy with a rabid fan base is refusing to die.

Sources said show producer ABC Studios is in talks with CW affiliate stations about continuing "Reaper" as a syndicated series for Sunday night.

The law-rated "Reaper" has been pretty much canceled at the CW. But most stations are said to love the series starring Brett Harrison as the Devil's bounty hunter."

All Reaper fans should e-mail their local CW affiliates to let them know you want another saeson!

The law-rated “Reaper” has been pretty much canceled at the CW. But most stations are said to love the series starring Brett Harrison as the Devil’s bounty hunter.”

All Reaper fans should e-mail their local CW affiliates to let them know you want another saeson!

That's interesting about 90210 doing better, but since they got a new showrunner it has been a much better plot-wise.

"I firmly believe that WAT will stay put with Leno arriving in fall. At the least, it’s chances have to be better than Cold Case, whose timeslot will not benefit from Leno-competition this fall."

I don't know if I buy this logic.

In reality there's nothing to stop CBS moving Cold Case into the Without A Trace slot next season if that's what they want to do so I'm not sure this argument really pans out.

Nimoy on the Fringe finale wasnt the least bit shocking (those his ears are massively big!) since its been talked about for weeks, but seeing the Twin Towers intact and (according to the alterate universe copy on the New York Post on Bells table indicated) the Whitehouse had instead been destroyed and just been rebuilt with Obama moving in was the real suprise; along with an indication JFK was never assassinated. Even worse this means there are TWO Obamas - one is more than enough. Hopefully the first episode of Season 2 will have Bell describing the other differences between that universe and ours.

As for the ratings, not sure why they dont screen out Idol from the first half hour - they could adjust them based on the previous weeks data automatically. Ratings for 2nd half hour arent spectacular but the demo is still good and moving to Canada will reduce costs. If HEROES can stay on the air with lower ratings, surely FRINGE can - providing ratings stabilize and dont go down.

Still amazed so many people think watching fat people lose weight and sing is entertaining - a good indication of the declining intelligence level of the viewing public.

FYI: Update on The Mentalist and CSI in the UK

I am slightly amazed at the success of The Mentalist in the US. Personally I think it's an OK show but not a "can't miss."

After a flying start at 3.6m in the UK when it became Five's top show displacing CSI it has fallen away steadily and last week only just hit 2.0m.

Despite being up against a major European football match featuring a British team on one of the main Channels last week CSI pulled in a creditable 2.6m which was 30% more than The Mentalist.

This week CSI was back up to 3.0m which is a good figure for our fith biggest channel and is easily Five's top show.

BigKeyChain, as always, that's due to four minutes of the first half hour being Idol. Skews the numbers. Also why the final numbers dropped to 3.9 in the demo and 9.28 mil.

The finale was alright. One of the best episodes of the season, and even though I still think that Fringe is 'just' above average (And the second best new show of this season after Castle) I am happy that they are taking the direction they've taken. I just hope we'll see Nimoy in a lot of epsiodes next season.

Fringe numbers went from 13.5 mill to 8.8 mill in an HOUR on the finale with Spock!! That's unreal. The fact is that viewers (in the demo or not) are leaving.

Without SVU on (but still with huge competition) Without A Trace scored much better numbers in relation to NCIS and The Mentalist than it has most of this season.

I firmly believe that WAT will stay put with Leno arriving in fall. At the least, it's chances have to be better than Cold Case, whose timeslot will not benefit from Leno-competition this fall.

Yeah, apparently the AI overrun "does a number" on Fringe's first half hour numbers.

The Fringe finale was excellent. Among other things, it relieved my concerns that Abrams would do something ridiculous about the "other dimension". It turns out the other dimension is exactly the same as ours - except where it differs!

I suspect next season Fringe will be dealing with duplicate persons from the other dimension. Clearly Peter is from there, as his tombstone makes clear. And the question now is, WHICH William Bell is Oliva talking to? Ours - or theirs? And what happens when the OTHER Walter Bishop wants HIS son back?

If you thought Lost was complicated, I suspect Abrams is just getting started with Fringe. I just hope that doesn't alienate the viewers. I think he probably won't go overboard on that, though. He knows Lost has its problems with that issue and he explicitly said he wants to walk a more balanced path with Fringe.

Only thing I didn't like about the finale was offing David Robert Jones -he was a cool villain. But presumably Abrams has better ones in the wings.

Couldn't the Fringe drop off be because of Idol viewers before they turned over? Making the second half a more realistic figure.

The Biggest Loser is one of the few reality shows that I actually enjoy. At least it has heart and a positive message behind it. What they're doing and what they're promoting is really inspiring! I watched the finale last night and was SO excited to see Jerry, a 64 year old (the OLDEST competitor ever) who was only on the show for 2 weeks, win the at home contest for $100,000. That's pretty awesome!

Of course Fringe was up. It had Leonard Nimoy, didn't it? The fact that he was everywhere and interviewed numerous times in the past week or so for the new Star Trek movie didn't hurt Fringe. Nice free publicity.

What amazes me about Tuesdays is how many people actually watch the networks. It is probably one of the reasons restaurants give discounts on Tuesdays in my town.

Michael, I'm pretty sure Idol went about 5 minutes over yesterday, which may be the reason for the big decrease in viewers.

Indeed, FRINGE! What a season finale and omg what an ending to last week's cliffhanger. Finally, we saw Leonard Nimoy as William Bell and as for that "final vista image", wow, stunning and heartbreaking at the same time.

I absolutely love Fringe but and am glad that it was picked up for a second season. But at the same time look how much viewers it lost within the hour. That is an incredible amount of viewers that left.

Okay, the season finale of Fringe completely rocked, imo. I think this was the best episode of the season. I enjoy this show much more when it's delving into it's own mythology and not just on these Monster Of The Week episodes that make it feel like an X-Files remix.

Interesting how Fringe lost viewers in the second half hour while The Biggest Loser did the opposite at the same time!
