Day 11! Will TVbytheNumbers' website be renewed for the NBC schedule announcement or will it be canceled? We know we're still experiencing some pains, and our plan really is to throw as much as we can at the new hosting arrangement and see what happens.
There have been a lot of Chuck rumors while I've been busy with the site, but I haven't thought too much about them. I know it will cause some to point a finger and shake it at me saying, "and you call yourself a Chuck fan!?", but keeping the site up and running is a higher priority.
Going against the tide, I don't think the Friday rumors make much sense at all. Not for Chuck, not for Southland, and not for NBC. Friday Night Lights, with a subsidy from DirecTV does make sense to me. Otherwise, I really don't understand given the not so wonderful results NBC had with scripted shows on Friday this season why they'd think that was a good idea for next season. But, because it's NBC, it could definitely happen even if it doesn't make much sense.
I look at the calendar and just think there is always a lot of BS heading into upfronts and schedule announcements. And by BS, I am not referring to Ben Silverman. TV is a sales game. Sales is often a BS game. You have a lot of very smooth people at the networks and the studios doing what they do best. On top of it, these are people who love, and I mean absolutely love, the thrill of selling and negotiating and are very good at it. So good, that sometimes BS actually becomes reality. But mostly, it usually seems that it winds up that the BS was just BS.
On the other hand, for all The Talk about how many fewer people are watching TV on Fridays, there are still a lot of people watching TV on Fridays between broadcast and cable. CBS has figured it out somewhat, as has ABC, to a lesser degree with its unscripted Friday fare.
In addition to loving sales and negotiation, the networks and studios and the people who work for them are extremely competitive. If FOX and NBC give scripted original series airings another go on Fridays next season (outside of Friday Night Lights), I'd ascribe it to competitive angst more than anything else. But a competitive attitude alone doesn't result in competitive performance. This season neither FOX nor NBC were competitive on Fridays.
I would definitely not hate it if they tried again next season. If Chuck and Dollhouse aired on Fridays, Saturdays might become our biggest traffic day of the week. Not to mention get us more episodes of Chuck (and Dollhouse). While it would be a surprising outcome for me, I wouldn't mind it at all.

P.S. I know this isn’t the picture people wanted, but I couldn’t find a particular good picture of Sarah Lancaster in the Eve costume from Chuck vs. The Worm.
Barring site issues, or Chuck’s renewal getting announced, I’m going to be sparse most of the rest of today.
Heck, NBC should just close their doors since nothing really worked all season!
Fridays didn’t work, but they must keep trying. I hate crap being on TV on Fridays and Saturdays. I personally think the Networks gave up. CBS does ok on Friday and so does USA.

-There’s a good picutre there of the cast from that episode.
That episode was so much fun.
“Wait until you see my snake.”
Fridays aren’t a bad thing. I don’t think SOUTHLAND will last, but CHUCK could be successful on Fridays. If it can hit a 2.0 then it will likely stay there even if other shows on other nights go bad. Then they’ll try and find something that can follow CHUCK on Friday and do well.
Right now any renewal is good for CHUCK.
Im going to stay optimistic about all of this,But i still dont like the friday slot.
Dear Robert,
Happy Thursday: http://chucktv.net/gallery/albums/promo-episode6/chucktv_episode6_012.jpg
Best,
Mel @ ChuckTV.net
Mel, you just made my Thursday
Well in the words of captian awsome.Thats awsome.
Friday isn’t a lock, its just a thought as of right now.
I don’t think that Friday would be horrible for Chuck, but a move to Friday would signal that NBC isn’t looking to grow the audience of the show. So here’s to hoping that the fan base will follow it to Fridays, because like Nick C said if it can hold a 2.0 on Fridays it will be considered a hit for NBC. Southland on Fridays makes even less sense because that show has more potential to grow it’s audience and I believe that Fridays would be a death sentence to it. I would prefer Chuck on a different night (like Wednesdays at
but if it’s Friday’s or nothing I’ll take Fridays.
You know, the more I look at that pic of Sarah Lancaster, the more I realize that she needs to play Wonder Woman. The resemblance to Linda Carter is uncanny.
Still a nice picture! I’m not so sure about Friday’s, but like I posted before any Chuck is good Chuck. All us Chuck fans just have to let everyone know that Chuck will be airing on Fridays and we will see what happens.
im not so sure isnt exactly the words i was lookin for fridays.
Robert, I have got to say that I do think Friday programming makes sense for NBC… but only because of Leno. This is the only shot they have at shoring up 8-10, and I don’t think they should limit that to Mon-Thu. They really have to be agressive.
Just because something hasn’t worked in the past doesn’t mean it couldn’t work. It may bomb again (in which case they will jump ship and move everything back to M-T or just cancel it), but it may work if its the right shows. I think Crusoe and Life failing doesn’t mean that nothing could work for NBC on Fridays.
Now, I am not convinced that they will really follow through. Could be total BS like you said. But I do think it would be the smart thing to do.
RENEW CHUCK!
and can we get a mid-kung fu chuck photo for one day? that would be, as dr. devon woodcomb would say, AWESOME.
I know that this would never happen even in an alternate universe, but if NBC wants to aggressively go for Fridays and really make a statement they could move their Comedy Block to Fridays. But even NBC knows not to screw with a good thing as an experiment.
Tommy, yeah moving the comedy block to Friday would be a little drastic in my humble opinion, but some semi-solid performers wouldn’t hurt.
Robert – Thanks for the picture. I’ve not seen this one before, and I must say, it is simply spectacular!!!!!!!
Sarah Lancaster is beautiful! Daaammmnn!
