I believe a lot of good will stem from Three Rivers. There probably will be more donors in real life; there will probably be more recipients with incredible stories to tell. I give this series an "A" for all the good that will come from it. Sometimes TV should change and influence the world in a positive way. Alex makes the show watchable and worth watching.

Criminal Minds had 13.27 million viewers the day Alex O'Loughlin was on, April 29th. The previous week, April 22, Criminal Minds had a rerun and got 9.75 million viewers.
I liked Alex O'Loughlin in Moonlight. It was a freshman show that had two pilots. The first pilot was rejected and the cast was recast. It had about 4 different show runners. The last show runner was fired by CBS. Then CBS cancelled the show. It was the CBS show that could if given the chance. It would have increased in ratings had the writers strike not occurred. The audience would have grown. You know what CBS put in instead of Moonlight, The Ex-List. Who remembers the Ex-List? It lasted just 4 episodes before CBS pulled it off it's schedule in October 2008. The last episode of the Ex-List garnered only 5.3 million viewers. Moonlight would have done better. That little experiment cost CBS ratings and revenue.
To those critics who calls Alex O'Loughlin just another pretty face has probably not seen the show or in anything else he's been in. He is a versatile, talented actor. I know with Alex in Three Rivers that it will be good. I am sad that it isn't Moonlight instead. I will support Alex in whatever project he is in. He is a good guy with a good heart.

What the hell was NBC thinking cancelling Medium?
Their loss is CBS's gain. It's a fantastic show.
Kudo's to CBS seeing that this show is still a HIT!!!!!

I don't tbhink, unless The Ex List type ratings are achieved, CBS would axe a series after 3 eps. Even The Good Wife could probably last like 7-8, before being axed.

Someone said: "No one who watches Numb3rs will watch that idiotic garbage meant for the mindless voo-doo crowd. And no one who watches those completely nonsensical shows will ever watch Numb3rs because their brains would explode at the first demonstration of reason and logic."

"Medium," while it is fiction, is based on the life of Alison Dubois, a real woman. (Don't know the rules here about posting links, so just Google "Alison Dubois.") Really more of a procedural with a twist than sci fi. I don't suppose you have to accept all of the events depicted as being any more real than any episode of "The Andy Griffith Show," but the show is based on real people.

Fiction is fiction. I turn on my tv to be entertained, and "Medium" does a fine job of that. Delighted it's sticking around, and hope CBS doesn't muck about with it too much.

What are people's thoughts on what CBS is focusing on making a hit?
i've already seen promotion for NCIS LA, and it's got a good slot on Tuesday 9pm.

Fox really tried to pump up Fringe and it worked.
Don't remember if CBS they did the same for The Mentalist.

The Good Wife, sounds like Canterbury's Law and that bombed.
Three Rivers doesn't seem like much, and can be replaced mid season by Miami Trauma.

I don't get why people diss CBS, it is formulaic but it works and they've been number 1 6 times out of seven years with last season being the exception because of the writer's strike.

The concept of Three Rivers is interesting but I'm not sure if it can work because of the focus of organ donations which may get repetitive. The Good Wife seems a little soapy for a CBS show but it's got a great cast which may work in its favour.

I'm interested to see footage of Miami Trauma which had an okay script but it does sound like ER, Bruckheimer style.

Here's my guess for how the cancellations/renewals will go for the new series:

NCIS: Los Angeles - Definite full season renewal, plum post NCIS timeslot previously held by the Mentalist. This series is expected to do the same as the regular NCIS in the same way that the CSI spinoffs have done.

Three Rivers - Likely full season renewal or additional episodes. The series has a good time slot and Moonlight lead Alex O'Loughlin. So I think that this one has a good chance of staying the season.

The Good Wife - This series seems like the underdog for CBS. Plus its in the cursed Tuesday at 10pm slot. Even if it can retain its NCIS lead in, I doubt this show will last past 4 episodes.

Accidentally on Purpose - Likely full season or additional episodes for this series. It will be hard to launch a new series after HIMYM, but I think CBS will be patient with this one. Unless CBS is ready to let Rules out early, don't expect cancellation any time soon for this one.

I bet you most of those new shows...won’t come back next year.

Well, since only 1/3 of shows that premiere on broadcast nets ever see a second season, that's not exactly a risky bet. (For the record, historically CBS has been more likely than ABC, NBC, or FOX to give new shows a second season, especially 1-hour dramas).

As always CBS , same of the same...The only shows CBS backs up are all those CSI and NCSI.
I bet you most of those new shows , The Good Wife , Three Rivers...won't come back next year. I even doubt some will make it through the whole season. Not that I realy mind because both look quite boring. Yuck!. I mean , another Attorney show (remember Close to home?) and another Medical dramma o even worst because it is just about transplants, how many diferent type of organs can be transplanted in 20 episodes? (double Yuck!)
The only show I see coming back for a second season at CBS is NCSI :Los Angeles. So the others , I won't even bother watching them...

Lisaw - If CBS had the money, and more room, than I'm sure Trace would be back. It did well for Tuesdays at 10, but i'm sure CBS thinks that a new series could do better. With so many well performing series and limited timeslots, its hard to decide, which shows stayed and which go. Last year, all of the sophomore and freshman dramas were axed (Shark, Jericho, Viva Laughlin, Moonlight, Cane) and this year a few 10pm series were let go, including the retention losing series The Unit, Eleventh Hour, and Without a Trace, which was probably hard for CBS to axe. Same as last year's Welcome to the Captain, CBS axed the only new single camera comedy on there schedule (Worst Week), while keeping there 2nd night of comedy intact. Also same as last year, CBS has 13 episodes of Rules of Engagement waiting for midseason to come. I actually think that the lead in of the original NCIS will help the new one out, however like The Mentalist, once the new NCIS establishes itself, it should be moved.

Considering how Without A Trace has performed for CBS over the years it at least deserved a proper Finale and certainly not a slot against the final hour of the Finale of DWTS. But it should have got at least one Season against Jay Leno.

I feel that scheduling the NCIS spin-off directly after NCIS is overkill and may well backfire.

Jon - In the cases of both Scrubs and Medium, both shows are produced by different studios than the network they are on. Both Scrubs and Medium were picked up by ABC and CBS respectively because of the same reason, the networks who own them want to make more $$$$ off of syndication. In Scrubs case, NBC quickly after the strike and ABC really wanted to pick up the series to give it another chance and use it to build a comedy hour. In Medium's case, with limited slots next year, NBC couldn't find room for the series nor could they reach a deal with CBS, so they axed it. CBS studios, who seemed very pissed off, acknowledged how well the series did, and the next day it was picked up for a sixth season. Law & Order: Criminal Intent was moved to USA in a mutual deal, in order to help out that network and at the same time NBC has rerun rights to air new episodes after USA does. NBC has a similiar deal with DirecTV to air Friday Night Lights episodes after that network has. NBC also has Earl possibly moving to FOX next year. So in all within the last 2 years NBC has had 4 series change to 4 different networks in a mutual deal or picked up after cancellation (with a fifth network depending on Earl).

Julia - I meant to say JAG and Judging Amy. Joan of Arcadia was also axed that year but it was only 2 years old.

Medium moving to CBS is blessing in disguise as it will definetly get more viewers airing Ghost Whisperer than Heroes. It's weird that three NBC shows have moved channels with Scrubs last season, Criminal Intent the season before last and Medium this season as it's quite rare for it to happen unless a. The production company is still making off it. or b. One of the networks sees the potential and picks it up as was the case of JAG and Buffy.

I believe that by moving TBBT after TAAHM and by moving The Mentalist after CSI, CBS can buidl on those series. CBS wants to turn The Big Bang Theory into a hit for the next 2 seasons (and solve that 9:30 slot problem once and for all) by getting the post Men audience and I think out of all the previous occupants (Out of Practice, Courting Alex, Old Christine, Rules of Engagement, Worst Week) The Big Bang Theory can do the best. In The Mentalist's case, CBS wants to build on The Mentalists already mammoth audience by pairing it with the compatible CSI, and with similiar ratings, I think both can achieve success. Its possible this could be the last year for How I Met Your Mother, but if not the move to 8 can't do too much damage, and its better than airing Accidentally on Purpose to lead off the night. I also think that this will be Cold Case's final season (moving it to 10 was probably a good hint) and also CBS wants to be very patient with their comedy block (In previous years, CBS would have just scrapped the hour entirely but this year it seems, they want to let both series grow). I think this could be CBS's best schedule in years. Here's my thought on the canceled series.

Worst Week - Its retention out of Two and a Half Men was horrible, and just kept dipping. Also this show is single camera and doesn't really fit with the style of the other comedies. I'd expect a series like this would work out better on ABC. but they can't launch a successful comedy anyway. This is no surprise.

The Unit - After four seasons, its not a big surprise that CBS would pull the plug. Its retention out of Cold Case hasn't been that great and it seems CBS needs more slots anyway.

Without a Trace - It came down to 2 dramas, this and Cold Case. I always knew that Cold Case would be renewed over Trace, and my only thought on that was because Case is a year younger. Even though the series still does well it sucks to see such a well performing veteran get dumped like this. But I guess If your a CBS show, its expected.

Eleventh Hour - This was a series that I knew from the start wouldn't get another year. There were a few hints in the beginning, (the lower than usual episode order, combined with the early ending) The retention out of CSI was OK and the series did tend to skew older. It seems that CBS liked the series enough to give it a few more episodes but not enough to give it a second season.

Summary for this year, basically CBS got rid of a lot of 10pm shows and either moved older shows to 10 or they are launching a new series there. But basically I think the schedule is pretty stable.

JoJo - While The Unit was axed and Medium was renewed. keep in mind, Medium consistently outperformed most of NBC's other series at 10pm while The Unit was CBS's lowest rated drama and its retention was bad. Its no surprise that after getting a surprise pick up last year, the series ends now. The Unit is already in syndication so its not that bad. Also Medium was close to 100 episodes, and more episodes for syndication means more $$$$ for CBS studios.

JJ - CBS's friday seems bizzare to you, but at the same time they draw twice as many viewers as ABC, FOX, or NBC. 9-11 million doesn't seem that bad, especially on fridays. CBS seems to have a problem with their Friday 9pm slot (similiar to their Tuesday 10pm slot and Thursday 10pm slot) and finding a compatible show. They've tried Close to Home, Moonlight, The Ex List and Flashpoint, all except for Flashpoint have failed but still the cheap canadian import has dwindled. I think the combo of Ghost Whisperer, Medium, and Numb3rs is perfect for CBS.

Paul PT - It sucks WAT didn't get a proper finale, but it was probably a last minute thing. CBS isn't the network to announce the ending to a series, even a long running one. The last long running series to end on CBS was JAG and Joan of Arcadia and the closest to getting a finale was JAG and even then it wasn't confirmed that the series would end. What the producers of Without a Trace and Cold Case should have done, was back when the 2 series were announced to be in danger, the producers should have created proper finales or atleast some closure. They new there was the chance so why waste it?? And I think that NCIS spinoff should air after NCIS for now similar to how The Mentalist aired there. once the enw NCIS establishes itself as a hit, then CBS can move it to another slot.

Tiago Cavalcanti, I think that article means repeat syndication. The 69 episodes of The Unit that have already been produced have been sold into syndication. The required number of episodes for syndication is getting lower and lower.

I don't agree with CBS options.

First was a mistake to cancel Without a Trace, because don't have a series finale... after all this years with huge ratings and being CBS so «well in ratings they should do that, to shows some respect to the public.

Then The Mentalis in thursdays at 10? only in winter, because in my opinion this series need a little more time in is original slot.

NCIS and NCIS spin-off in the same day? Maybe later, but during fall in wednesdays at 8PM i think it was better.

without a trace should have a 8th season and the return to the slot after CSI.

The series finale could air in the first or second week of january with a 3 episode arch form tuesday until thursday (i think in a very good story... who implicates the special appearence of gill grissom, sarah siddle, warrick brown and catherine willows and another two celebrity star. a explosive ending, and maybe with a subplot that could had a continuation in CSI plot series. However this episodes aren't a full cross-over.) BUT WE KNOW that now this is impossible. maybe someone in CBS could have a similar idea in the next few weeks, when they realize that the new schedule has not that certains...

HYMIM at 8 i guess some problems here for CBS... below 3.5 in the demo is almost certain. not good for the new sitcom.

Maybe the new sitcom in the fall should air after two and a half men... and again in january if the rating were good they move to 8PM and BBT to 9:30, or even HIMYM who never had that oportunitty.

I predict those 2 reality shows 2 medical shows will fail and that new drama The Good Wife that is not procedurals. CBS is only good at procedurals.

I can see NCIS2 and The Bridge a success.

I'm tired of hearing that CBS only appeals to old people. I'm 28 and I love NCIS and am looking forward to the spin-off, although I agree the title could better, but airing them back to back could work if they are planning to tie cases together. Interesting move for the Mentalist, I think CSI's days are numbered.

Overall, CBS has the strongest line-up that's watched by the most people overall and they aren't slouches in the demos either.

Just one tiny clarification for cjwillis: I'm fairly certain Three Rivers is set in the medical innovation mecca known as Pittsburgh ;) . With all due respect to the Cleveland Heart Clinic - Pittsburgh is the ideal setting for a medical drama. I think they shot the pilot here too.

Holly!
Have you ever watched Alex O'Loughlin in any of his films? (Oyster Farmer, Mary Bryant, or The Invisible) Did you see his performance as Kevin Hiatt in The Shield? Did you EVER watch him in Moonlight? In short, are you familiar with his body of work? Sure. He has a large fan base from Moonlight because he happens to be gorgeous, but this man is talented. Many felt the series was not given a fair chance. But Alex O'Loughlin has a body of work much larger than that series... I think you need to give him a chance. CBS obviously sees great potential in him, or they would not be developing vehicles for him. His character in Three Rivers is based on the FAMOUS heart transplant surgeon Dr. Gonzalo Gonzales-Strawinski from the Cleveland Heart Clinic. If you EVER need heart surgery (Do you even have a heart, Holly?) I would recommend the Cleveland Heart Clinic. It is most famous in the world because it is the most successful, the most innovative place to go with the best doctors... Robin Williams (have you even heard of him, Holly?) chose the Cleveland Heart Clinic for his heart surgery, because if you want the best, you go there... Not that Alex is Gonzalo, but his character is based on him and promoting organ donors in our era of GREEN is so right, so human and so selfless... So, earth to Holly, give Three Rivers a chance. If it is good, it will succeed, and, I predict, Alex will contribute to its success. Stay tuned to CBS for Three Rivers.

I am glad that TBBT was moved, it was always a decision between House and TBBT and I am glad that both shows will be able to explode in the ratings without each other as competition. If HIMYM can maintain its 8.30 rating @ 8 then it should do fine in the slot, if not then CBS could move TBBT back to 8 and move HIMYM to 8.30 mid-season after TBBT has had a chance to grow its audience a bit(assuming that Jenna Elfman's show dies).

Medium on Friday is great for the show but very bad for Dollhouse. As others have already said, The Mentalist should be getting the 9pm slot and CSI the 10pm. CSI has been a shadow of itself without Grissom. I am not sure about the NCIS spin off, the backdoor pilot on NCIS didn't endear me to any of the new characters except Chris O'Donnell.

Overall CBS still has the strongest lineup and probably the best schedule released this upfront season.

The crazy Moonlight fans are really the crazy Alex fans and yes we are here!
Alex is a very talented actor. The show has a very good chance of lasting based on his acting alone. If you add in the other actors and actresses in the cast I believe this show will do very well.
Go Alex!!

Friday night's schedule is bizarro.

Nonsense show: Ghost Whisperer
Nonsense show: Medium
Rational/Logical show: Numb3rs

Wow! That's shocking. No one who watches Numb3rs will watch that idiotic garbage meant for the mindless voo-doo crowd. And no one who watches those completely nonsensical shows will ever watch Numb3rs because their brains would explode at the first demonstration of reason and logic.

Bizarre choices from CBS.

CBS' philosophy. If it ain't broke, let's fix it! They change 4 nights, which have just about nothing wrong with them, while taking one of their biggest problem areas -- Wednesdays 8:00-9:00 -- and leaving it as is. Smart.

They try "How I Met Your Mother" at 8:00 once this season. It stiffs. So what they do? Reward it with the time slot.

And oh.em.gee, I just realized a Paula Marshall show got renewed for a second season. And Paula Marshall is on it. IT'S A MIRACLE OF MODERN SCIENCE! She may have to call up Nathan Fillion to help her through this.

With maybe one exception, new shows do not look good. "Three Rivers" clips were TERRIBLE. (How many flops do the "Jericho" hacks need, anyway?) I imagine the only good thing about that one will be the resulting meltdown from the "Moonlight" Grape Kool Aid cult when this too gets cancelled. I look forward to all the PhotoShop fantardard that will soon be flooding CBS. Maybe if Nina Tassler is lucky, she'll even get some death threats this time around. Those kooks already despise her for the "actor centric" comment. (You can really see how wrong that comment proved to be...)

The only show I currently watch on CBS is the Amazing Race. Is is sad that I semi-want to watch The Good Wife because of Matt Czuchry (Logan from Gilmore Girls)? I think people used to be very network-dedicated. When I was a teenager I would give almost everything on the WB a chance and ABC if there was something that sounded good. I never tuned in to the other networks and since I had enough hours of TV to entertain me. Now with TV seasons on DVD and episodes online, I wait until after a couple of episode and look at ratings before I even give a new show a chance. I only watch pilot episodes if I'm following an actor (like Nathan Fillion on Castle) or I was already watching something on that channel on the same night (like Supernatural after Smallville or Chuck before Heroes).
